Firefox 4 is there! · 2011-03-22 19:05 by Wladimir Palant
And since there are not enough blog posts about Firefox 4 on Planet, I am going to remind you that Firefox 4 is available now and you should go get it while it is hot. Seriously, do it. Lots of work went into this release and Firefox 4 is a huge step forward.
In case you were wondering, you can continue using Adblock Plus. The current version will work just fine, except for a keyboard shortcut that conflicts with Panorama. On Friday we are releasing Adblock Plus 1.3.5 which will fix this issue (along with other improvements).
Update (2011-03-23): One day after the release glow.mozilla.org still shows Firefox 4 as being downloaded more than 100 times per second. The arc chart is particularly interesting (click in the lower left corner to bring it up). Right now it shows Europe as being responsible for almost half of all the downloads. If you zoom in you see that the country with most downloads in Europe is Germany. Zoom in again and it shows you that Nordrhein-Westfalen is the German county with most downloads. Now one more click and we can congratulate the most Firefox-affine city in the world* — Köln (Cologne) where I happen to live in. I guess my wife’s Firefox evangelism paid off :-)
* Just joking, I know that the US has a dozen cities with higher download counts. Not to mention that Berlin’s download numbers are also significantly higher — but it doesn’t happen to be located in a county with very high population numbers. But plurality voting is good enough for US so…
