Enhancement to block fly-in ads

Post by cjsmall »

I find the sites with all the fly-in and floating box ads and announcements to be extremely annoying. Is there any way that Adblock Plus could be enhanced to block these sorts of things? If not, does anyone know of a plug-in that does this? Thanks.

Please provide some example pages where you see those.

http://www.commondreams.org/
This site displays a pop-up "Donate Now" window that has to be dismissed in order to read the content.

Typical pop-up window needing to be dismissed.

If you wait long enough or possibly move your mouse enough (not sure which), a pop-up will appear.

These are all example of the more typical pop-up that blocks access to the site. Right now I cannot find examples of the fly-in type of menu that tracks down the page as you scroll. I will monitor for sites of this type and report here when I run across them.

Here is a site that has one of these annoying fly-in menus.

http://www.policymic.com/articles/53195 ... nia-has-to

Down in the lower-right corner is a little "hidden" menu. When you scroll the page down, it flies in, covering some of the content until manually dismissed. There is also a fly-in from the left for Facebook/Twitter which appears when the mouse in within the article. These are the kinds of things I would like to see blocked.

On other sites (I'm still looking for examples), these menus can appear near the top and track down the page as you scroll, which is even more annoying.

I don't understand this. I looked through all of the options and I see nothing called Annoyance filter. Is this a separate set of filters I need to add? I currently have EasyList and EasyPrivacy+EasyList filter sets installed. I added Fanboy's List, but I do not see any option like this included in that list and I still see there fly-in menus. Can you explain what I should be looking for.

Thanks.

Got it and it works. Thanks you for the pointer to the subscription site. I had only been looking at the limited pulldown menu of filter options.
