Blocking of CSS fixed background images doesn't work

Post by Zzedar »

If a page has a CSS that says there should be a fixed-attachment background image (an image that stays in the same place on your screen no matter how you scroll the page), it can't be blocked. The list of all blockable elements will show it red and italicized, but I can still see the picture on the page.

On http://57815.rapidforum.com , the following object http://images.rapidforum.com/googletop.html doesn't get blocked/collapsed, although it is explicitly blacklisted. I think that's what the original poster described.

I just double checked - the above behavior only happens with 0.5.11, in 0.5.10 this object is correctly blocked/collapsed. What's the deal here?

I was looking at something like http://roachfiend.com, where http://roachfiend.com/wp-content/themes ... /roach.jpg is apparently unblockable.

Does that happen in 0.5.10 also?

Update: I can block that element fine with 0.5.10.

I confirm it's doing this in 0.5.11, I did notice it's a background image.. but that shouldn't make any difference. Should it?

Examples of background images that won't block

Post by Guest »

The orange XML (RSS) images in the left column of the following page still appears, even after it's blocked and appears in red in the Adblock elements list:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 01826.html

Similarly, on Yahoo news articles, at the end of the article are four icons for
Email Story, IM Story, Discuss, Printable View. Those icons also won't disappear even after they're blocked. For an example, see http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051212/tc_ ... directv_dc

Thanks.

This might be a bug that was ported over from the original Adblock, i had the same problem with a new version of that, which was why i switched to Adblock Plus. I might also be wrong though.

In any case, since this seems to be a common problem, any word on a fix?
