My "free"web host provides service in exchange for posting in his ad-laden forum. I want to support him without looking at the ads. Oh and support conservative sites as well.
Need I check "site whitelisting" in options of AdBlock+ ? To use Filterset.G's whitelist?
AdBlock+ dev build (downloaded 050735)
Or is that something else entirely
thanks for making my web surfing much much more pleasant
whitelisting in AB+ : need I check 'options' 'site white..
wow that was a fast response. I think I'm just fortunate to be posting while you happened to be here!
Conversely, if I don't enable "Site whitelisting" how does AdBlock+ handle the above filters?
thanks

Is it necessary to enable that to use filters of this form:mcm wrote:Site Whitelisting means if the URL of the site matches one of you white filters nothing on the site is blocked..
Code: Select all
@@/\Whide_ads=1\W/
@@/foxnews.*adstream/
@@/index.html?$
@@&ads=0

Is use of this feature independant of the above options setting?mcm wrote: "Support Websites" option listed at the bottom. The ads will be downloaded but not seen.
thanks
I was unaware you were the same person. I didn't think I was crossposting incorrectly.g wrote:No need to post this on two sites simultaneously. I will respond to it on the Filterset.G Forums.

Yeah you did
If Site Whitelisting is not enabled then the URL of the site is not checked against your whitelist filters so ads can be blocked. What happens instead is each URL on the page (listed under Adblockable items by clicking on the Adblock text at the bottom) is checked against your white filters and not blocked by your other filters.

I posted this last week on Mozillazine, hope it clears things up a bit:
Let's say you have only two filters in Adblock Plus:
@@example
ads
The filters say that anything containing the string "ads" should be blocked, but that if the string also contains "example" it should not be blocked.
You visit the site "example.com". It has two ads, one that's hosted locally (http://www.example.com/ad.gif) and another that isn't (http://www.ads.com/ad.gif).
If Site Whitelisting is off, the ad from ads.com will be blocked, but the one from example.com will be shown, because the string "example" is present in it.
If Site Whitelisting is on, both ads will be displayed, because the site you're at matches the whitelist filter. Basically, a whitelist string ("example") appears in the address bar at the top of the screen (http://www.example.com). It never even checks for blacklist filters; it just stops when it sees that the site matches.
[Site Blocking (the original Adblock function), will not load any content from a page that matches a filter, so you'll just get a blank tab if "ads" is in the URL.]

Sorry to raise this old Thread from the dead ,
but this was also the only question left after reading your instructions, because they were somehow "conflicting" because one could easily think the "Site Whitelisting" Option enables or disables the Filterset.G-Whitelist:

If you're using Adblock Plus, I strongly recommend disabling Site Whitelisting.
Maybe something like this would help against confusion:Filterset.G-Whitelist-Beta requires Adblock Plus (http://bene.sitesled.com/adblock.htm)
and is essential for the proper operation of Filterset.G in conjunction with it.
If you're using Adblock Plus, I strongly recommend disabling Site Whitelisting, even with using Filterset.G-Whitelist.
