Vladimir are there any updates on when Google Chrome will have extensions and whether/when you will be creating a version Adblock Plus for Google Chrome?

Thanks!

When Chrome will have extensions: better ask Chrome developers. I hear that nightlies already have some rudimentary extension support but it could easily take a year or more before you can do something really useful with those.

Whether I will port Adblock Plus to Chrome: as I already said at the beginning of this thread - definitely not. I already have enough things to spend my time on, I don't need to rewrite Adblock Plus from scratch for a totally different platform.

I second this request too! Please lets have AdBlockPlus ported to Chrome also. Thanks.

Did you know Iron, derived from Chromium much like Chrome, has built-in adblock?

yup, fantastic as that seems it is true:

and it has a maintained adblock list:

Be sure to visit the Iron forum for Iron questions:

Iron blocking is very primitive, no whitelisting, complete url blocking (a curse sometimes), creates error messages, no way to simply disable the block on pages... not something I expect Wladimir could work with, or design around.

sadly, true. But I prefer the in-browser solution to loopback proxy.
no whitelisting
horrible too
creates error messages, no way to simply disable the block
Sometimes Iron chokes on URLs with anchors

AFAIK no way to (easily) troubleshoot which rules are acting unlike ADP "open blockable items".

One step at a time though. SRware is a privacy pioneer in the chromium world. With more exposure, and increased demand someone similarly fond of chromium will popup with options now that extension support is unfolding albeit slowly.

WP's extension (source) might hint someone in a good direction. Though maybe chromium will end up with a Karma Blocker extension option, too. :)

HUGE thank you to fanboy in any case :D

Works fine for me.

The only problem is that it doesn't work in incognito.

Lots of people claim that user scripts (like all ad blocking extensions for Chrome) are sufficient for them as an ad blocker. I seriously start to wonder whether the amount of effort I'm putting into Adblock Plus is justified. Maybe I should simply publish a GreaseMonkey script and be done with it? Apparently, most people don't care that ads are loaded before they are removed or that their ad blocker has very approximate knowledge of what the webpage is loading (and consequently about what they can block).

Google Chrome is faster and sharper than anything out there. However I will not use it because I cannot block ads that move. I have a problem trying to read when an ad is bouncing around yelling "hey look at me." My nerves become so jangled that I leave the page without reading anything. I have no objection to printed ads (a la the classifieds in a newspaper)

Wonderful Browser - but I'll never use it.

Wladimir Palant, I think you will find that it only seems that way. I know there is lots of people that would greatly miss this extension's abilities if we didn't have it. I tried using other methods in the past. Even admuncher, I even paid for it back in the day. But NOTHING has worked as effectively and easily as ABP. NOTHING! I would be willing to even go so far as to bet that many have stayed with Firefox over Chrome because of ABP. So, don't let the few look like more then they are. If they where happy with it they would quit asking for ABP to be ported to chrome. :) And Stylish or (as you said) GreaseMonkey would be the number one downloaded/used extension for Firefox.

Or was that just sarcasm to make a point?

I agree with IceDogg, ABP is what keeps me from changing browsers, it is actually what made me change from IE. We all appreciate the work you have put into it.

Put another one for the wish list. It would be nice to know why. Not that we expect someone to have to do it especially when they do all this work for free or little pay.

I just saw this today

Chrome extensions site now open for uploads

Google asks programmers to start adding their Chrome extensions to the new gallery. Browser users can't yet download them, though.

But the problem is that they all suck, they only hide ads. They can't block like ABP does. Please ABP, be chrome friendly. :D :D :D
