ABC.com and full episode videos viewing

Hi,

I have been trying to get the full videos to play over at abc.com for the past 24 hours and I can't figure out what needs to be changed. I've tried doing some searching on this board, but the search engine doesn't work very good. To see what I mean, do a Topic only search and use the word Exception and the search returns various topics, many without the word exception in them.

I have the Move player for Firefox installed and I can see the short clips from around the abc.com site. I also have NoScript extension installed, but it's set to allow abc.com, movenetworks.com and go.com and shows the fully enabled solid blue 'S' in the status bar.

Adblock Plus, OTOH, doesn't work as expected. I see that there are a couple of blocked items in the blockable items list. However, when I tell Adblock Plus to make a Exception Rule for these items, and while the exceptions are made and listed there in the Exception Rules list, Adblock Plus still blocks the item. I would think that Adblock Plus would know how to create it's own proper exception rules and they would have a higher priority then something listed in the Filter Subscription (EasyList).

Since that didn't work, I disabled Adblock Plus on abc.go.com and I see the green Adblock Plus icon at the bottom of the Firefox window, but still no joy.

Here's what happens when I click the Launch button for the full episode video. First a new Firefox window opens, but smaller. The area in this window goes black for a second, and then turns all gray with the exception of a narrow black strip at the bottom. This Firefox window is a borderless window and because ABP doesn't have menu options and there is no status bar, I don't know what's happening.

I've tried going to a particular show topic and starting the video from there as well as just clicking one of the Full Episode from the main page.

Both NoScript and Adblock Plus are in their allow every thing mode, so I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Would someone please help me by trying to play an ABC full episode videos?.

Thanks.

Grant

Hi,

Forget what I said about this search engine. I thought the option was for topic only searches, but its message text only. I'm use to the former being the norm. My mistake. Sorry.

I tried it with Firefox and Adblock Plus enabled ... nothing!

I tried it with Firefox with Adblock Plus disabled in add-ons ... nothing!

I tried it in Internet Explorer ... STILL nothing!

It just plain doesn't work at all here ... just a big, gray empty page where the player should be. I do have the Move Media Player installed too.

It seems to be something beyond Firefox.

This seems to be a big problem for MANY users.

Google this:

Code: Select all

abc "full episodes" "not working"

I went into the ABC forums and was reading some of the problems other people were having with full episodes, and that's when I realized their site must of been coded by 900 monkeys banging on 300 keyboards. You click a link to read a message, and it takes three, count them, three back button clicks to return to the index. One step forward, three steps back. Only ABC, apparently, would find that acceptable.

And I don't find it amusing in the least that ABC.com decided to blare The Sweets' "The Ballroom Blitz" with an autoplay each time the site loads. However, I do get a small bit of satisfaction for the fact that with 900 monkeys it never occurred to a single one of them what would happen if the full episode player did work considering that Ballroom Blitz continues to compete for attention by screaming in the background!

Sorry to have bother. Clearly the full episode playback problem is an ABC.com or one of it's affiliates, problem.

The one thing that I am still curious about is the blockable items list. If I right-click and select "add exception rule for item", shouldn't that override any other filter?

If you click on something in the blockable items list, it only allows the one item that you clicked on.

If you want to whitelist the PAGE or the domain, you need to open the dropdown menu next to the ABP icon and select "Disable on .... "

I had audio and the adds were playing ok, but the video was all choppy, and stopped every minute or so. I ended up fixing it by replacing the move media player (plugin used for video streaming) with a different (older ?) version: first I removed the move media player I had (go to start, control panel, add and remove programs, remove the move media player), then I went to the CW network site and clicked on a full episode there to watch. It started downloading a different version of the move media player (maybe an older version). I went back to ABC and the problem was fixed. Hope this works for you too.

FIX for me

I'm having the same problem too. I uninstalled and re-installed Flash and the player. I enabled all my Active X items in the security settings and still nothing. I have been watching ABC for almost year with no problems and now I can't watch anything. I tried using a different computer and got the same results. It's really frustrating. I think I'll try Guest 101's fix

Just found a solution on this forum that worked for me (posted by Andy)
http://www.reelpopblog.com/2007/05/abc_player_prob.html.

The solution is to use this link...
http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/check?aff=

I hope it works for others too!

Hey .. that actually worked here too. :D

Now that I can finally see it, if you are still having trouble, just whitelist:
  • @@http://*.abc.go.com/fep/player?src=
It won't run without the commercials .. but I can check on that later. I will add that whitelist in a couple of hours.

That link seemed to fix it here at the moment, Liz. Thanx
