Some background images still not being blocked in 0.5.11.1

Post by Guest »

Hi,

Some background images still appear on web pages despite being blocked (and appearing as blocked, i.e. in red, on the blockable elements list).

For example, on Yahoo! News pages, several background images show up after being blocked. Try going to http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051223/ts_ ... newyork_dc and try blocking the camera icon next to the slidshow link, the video camera icon next to the video link, or any of the small icons next to "Email Story" "IM Story" "Discuss" or "Printable View" at the bottom of the story. All of them can be selected for blocking, but all of them continue to show up after being blocked.

Another example is the orange XML icon used to designate RSS feeds on washingtonpost.com. Try going to http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 01826.html and try blocking the orange XML icons in the left column. The can be selected for blocking, but continute to show up after that.

Thanks!
Komar

Also on http://www.deviantart.com blocking background images (mask - http://sh.deviantart.com/shadow/* - right-bottom border shadow of each image) aren't blocking. In item-list they are italic and brown, but still visible in the page.

Found another example of a background image that still shows up when blocked -- the large NEWS.COM BLOG image that appears at the top of the blog headlines at http://news.com.com/2072-10784_3-0.html?tag=ne.tab.hd

Hey, here's another one that doesn't disappear after being blocked: the ABC logo at the bottom of ABS News pages (logo with URL http://abcnews.go.com/images/site/story ... oter_2.gif found on article at http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=1475921).

This background image thing is only a minor annoyance, but one that would be nice to have fixed.

Hmm, doesn't look like I can solve the issue for removing the images immediately after adding a filter to block it. But I have at least caught the error which will allow you to remove the image on page load as long as Adblock is not set to download the ads and then hide them.

wouldnt it be possible to reload the page automaticly after blocking (only the one tab)? this could be perhaps deactivated in options menu.

Still not working

I'm sorry if I'm being dense, but it appears to me that the latest Adblock 0.5.11.2 doesn't fix the problem.

The problem was not that certain background images did not disappear immediately and needed a page reload to block. The problem was certain background images not disappearing at all, even if blocked, even after a reload.

The examples listed earlier on this issue (XML icons on washingtonpost.com, several images on yahoo news pages, blog header image on news.com, ABC news image on abcnews.com) all continue to show up even after they have been blocked. Reloading the page doesn't help, they still appear.

Thanks!

@LorenzoC: I think you should register. It seems that the same trolls that feel like impersonating people on addons.mozilla.org, came here now.
