AdBlock Plus won't install

Post by HazelH »

I keep getting this error message:
Firefox could not install the file at

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/down ... pi?src=api

because: Signing could not be verified.
-260
I have tried this, to no avail:
For Windows or Mac users: In Firefox > Tools > Options > Advanced tab > Encryption tab > click the View Certificate button. In Authorities tab, locate and highlight StartCom Certification Authority in the list, click the edit button and ensure that all boxes for the trust settings are checked.
Okay, it's a little complicated, and fine, I'm a Luddite for being on an old system (Mac 10.5.8 ), but I've got both Firefox and TenFourFox on this machine (because they each do different things well). I understand that they both think they're the same program as far as the files they draw on go, and I want ABP on FF and not TFF (I understand you can partition them off somehow, but the instructions I found for doing it were only for PCs). I was fine uninstalling ABP on Firefox and then reinstalling it frequently (it only takes a moment) until it stopped working and now only gives me the error above.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

What version of Firefox are you using? Firefox add-ons are now signed by Mozilla. The obsolete version of Firefox you're using doesn't seem to like this.

Try Adblock Plus 2.4.1 from adblockplus.org. This was the last version to work with Firefox 16, which is presumably what you're using.

Firefox 3.6.28; it's the highest I can go on this machine. I am getting it directly from Mozilla, and it was installing just fine until a couple of nights ago. Like I said, I have TenFourFox as well (yes, I know my internet experience is this patchwork mess all cobbled together) which basically thinks it's Firefox from what I understand. Switching back and forth meant one or the other would try to use the same extensions and they'd end up not working at all, so my 'solution' was to uninstall and reinstall Adblock Plus in Firefox when I needed it, which like I said was working just fine (and it only takes a couple minutes, so it's not that much of a hassle) until the other night.

That's called "using the same profile": Look for a portable version of one or the other.

Normally I'd recommend sticking with TenFourFox, but I know it doesn't support plugins anymore and that's why you still use ye olde Firefox 3.6
There's a buzzin' in my brain I really can't explain; I think about it before they make me go to bed.

Yikes. Stick with TenFourFox; at least it's based on Firefox 31 ESR.

For Firefox 3.6:

For the latest version of TenFourFox, you should be able to install the latest version of Adblock Plus from the Firefox Add-ons site. If needed, here's a download link for it from adblockplus.org.

Don't do that. You're liable to end up corrupting your profile. Use the profile manager to set up separate profiles.

I've been having trouble as well, it keeps telling me "The add-on could not be downloaded because of a connection failure on Adblockplus.org.

I just got a new laptop and I really love addblock plus, please help!
