Hi,
I made a mistake and downloaded and installed adblock.exe. I should know better! I've googled adblock.exe and can't seem to get good info on whether it could be malware of some sort. I ran a full scan with Windows Defender (on win 8.1), and it said everything was OK. Does anyone have information about this? Any and all feedback greatly appreciated!

Hello,
The Firefox version doesn't involve any executable files (.exe).
The installer for the Internet Explorer version is named adblockplusie.exe. Right-click the file and choose Properties. If it's legitimate, you'll see a “Digital Signatures” tab and a signature from Eyeo GmbH.
Install, update then fully scan your system with Malwarebytes Antimalware.

Thanks for your reply.

Your recommendation was spot on. I purchased Malwarebytes, and ran the scan. It found and quarantined malware (PremiereOption) that I'm fairly certain was installed by adblock.exe. Thanks so much!
