Cannot verify signing

I'm using Firefox 3.6.8 --- I am unwilling to upgrade, because version 4 and above does not have "STATUS BAR". I cannot live without status bar.

So -- many pages get hung up on "WYCIWYG" -- page only pretends to load, but stays on a blank page forever. I can page back, but it takes several tries to click "STOP LOADING" and catch it with the webpage showing, before it jumps to the sitemeter "WYCIWYG". Very, very annoying.

Many sites recommend "Adblock Plus" to block the sitemeter bug.

So I go to Mozilla Addons, click "download Adblock Plus", downloads -- but refuses to install, because it "cannot verify signing". A couple of other blockers have the same result.

Any advice?

go to about:config
search for
xpinstall.signatures.required

and put it to false, see if works

Thanx for your reply. I looked on the internet, didn't know you could type commands into the URL box; got to "about:config", it is alphabetized. The only entries under "xpinstall", are ---

I'd be happy to upgrade if there was a newer version that had ALL of the features of 3.6.8, especially the "taskbar".

Yes; was going to attach an image, but don't see a button in the "post reply" editor.

I had the add-ons install box.

Then a gray box with the words:

Thank you -- I will keep that in mind.

It still remains desirable to use "adblock", I'm really sick of waiting for all of the ad services to load (watching them load on my STATUS BAR...)

give a try to the last firefox + that addon for status bar and install last ABP

Right-click in a blank area of the about:config tab, make a new Boolean preference, and call it xpinstall.signatures.required and set it to false.

Well, that worked! New entry "xpinstall.signatures.required" --- (status) user defined, (type) boolean, (value) false.

That done, then I go to "Version 1.3.10.1-signed", click "Download Now".

Then I click "Install"...


And the gray box appears,

"Cannot install the file at..."
Reason -- "because Signing cannot be verified..."
