Adblock (plus) crashes my browser
Sorry for the multiple posts.
OK I've installed a fresh profile with only adblock plus (0.6.1.1) installed, nothing else. All I do is open tabs, click to Yahoo Mail (on my bookmarks), then close tabs. This is enough to regularly crash the broswer.
I have default abp settings - nothing changed.
Any ideas much appreciated.

Hm, this doesn't crash Firefox for me either (I have been trying hard the last few days). Maybe you could let me take a look at it myself, via NetMeeting (allows remote controlling of a computer, pre-installed on every Windows). If this is ok with you - please send me a mail (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/a ... php?id=346).
Ok my talkback report number (from yesterday) is:
15256911
I also found the following adblock/adblock plus reports all relating to yahoo mail from other people, so the crashes are not unique to me: (These are all from february)

Yes, I know - there are lots of crashes mentioning Yahoo Mail. I think most of these aren't even triggered by Adblock (in any of its variations). There is simply something about that page that Firefox can't handle, and I would really like to know, what this is...
Unfortunately your talkback is useless - stack is corrupted. So that's probably the same problem as in http://bugzilla.mozdev.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13091

Adblock+ causing Netscape Webmail errors
Well the following is the entire final post from a thread regarding Netscape Webmail Error. I had originally thought that it was exclusively a webmail issue. After doing a number of things suggested in that thread including clearing cache and deleting cookies, etc. it was time to check further afield. It wasn't until I did some additional testing and tried using IE that I discovered that it may have had to do with Adblock since there is no Adblock for IE.
Thanks,
Headwind
I am having a problem with my Netscape webmail account using the new look and feel style of NS 8. I am using FF 1.5.0.1 to access my Netscape webmail. I have installed Adblock Plus V0.5.11.2 and Adblock Filterset.G Updater V0.3.0.1 Extensions
When Netscape webmail opens, I get an error message that says:
*****************************************************************
* http://m02.mail.netscape.com *
* An error occurred while attempting to request data from the sever. * * *
* If this problem continues, please see our technical support information at *
* http://m02.mail.netscape.com/15106/nc/e ... help.aspxp [Component returned failure code: *
* 0x805e000a[nsIDOMHTMLIFrameElement.setAttribute]] *
*****************************************************************
I am able to receive webmail email itself. Webmail opens a new window to display my webmail messages and seems works fine except that each time I open my Netscape webmail message window, I receive this same error as I open a mail message. I must be close the error message box before the message will open to be read.
I also find that while I can open a "compose email" window or a email reply window; when I attempt to Send a message; webmail hangs and produces the following error:
*****************************************************************
* http://m02.mail.netscape.com *
* There was a problem sending the message. Please check your network connections * * *
* If this problem continues, please see our technical support information at *
* http://m02.mail.netscape.com/15106/nc/e ... help.aspxp *
*****************************************************************
The message will not send!!
I have also found that I can open my Netscape webmail using the older webmail style look and feel with no problems; but that style does not provide the access to the Spam functionality of the newer style. (I don't believe this is a skinning issue since I use the default skin.) Plus I like the way the newer style handles webmail folders and allows you to open a reply email directly from a link within a webmail message. The older webmail opens a email compose from my regular Thunderbird email.
It appears that this is related to Adblock. I tested using IE and did not get any of the error messages. I do however, get ads in the lower portion of the mail inbox and the right edge of the opened message read window. When I turn Adblock OFF in FF; I no longer get the error messages and do get ads.
More data:
When I select "Disable in this page and it's subpages"; I no longer get the error messages when opening either the Inbox or the Read Message window. I do, however, get advertising in the bottom of the Inbox and in the right margin of the Read Message window.
That would suggest that the error rests with the Adblock+ extension or that there is something in the associated Filterset.G Updater extension. Since both seem to work just fine with all other sites that I have used; it would suggest that it is something in the blocking function that interferes in an unfavorable way with the Netscape webmail code thus throwing the error messages.
I really would like an answer to this ongoing problem. I can't figure out which blocked item is causing this issue.
Does anyone have any suggestions on this? Has anyone else encountered the same problem and found a solution.
Thanks,
Headwind

It depends what you mean by triggered. For me that page crashes regularly with adblock (plus) and never crashes without it.Wladimir Palant wrote:Yes, I know - there are lots of crashes mentioning Yahoo Mail. Does that mean all my talkbacks will be useless or should I continue submitting them?
In the mean time here is another one of mine:

I can confirm that webmail always bombs w/Adblock+ and not when Adblock turned off. That makes it curious that Adblock+ doesn't cause Webmail to bomb when I use the older (pre 8.x) style webmail styled page. I'm not into the internals of webmail program; but that suggests that there is some significant change between the two. :-p
I did a Tamper trace and these were the items that failed/left pending at a point where the process started to post the error messages:

OK folks, I have a working solution (actually 2) for the adblock / yahoo mail crashing problem.
First solution is to simply whitelist the yahoo site. I remember reading that this didn't work for someone. Well it works for me! I added the following filter:
@@http://*mail.yahoo*
This allows yahoo mail to display as normal (with ads) as though adblock hasn't been installed.
Ok, so what if you hate adds? Well I suggest you install Noscript and forbid yimg.com from running scipts. Voila - no adverts!
I'm sure the above 2 solutions can be tailored towards gmail or whatever other site causes conflict.
As to what is in the code which is causing the crashing, hopefully the above two solutions will provide some further insight. Wladimir???
Garcia.

Sorry just to add that forbidding yimg.com also stops the mail buttons from working (e.g. compose, search, delete etc.), so not a very practical solution!
But whitelisting mail.yahoo works. At least it stops the browser from crashing, whilst blocking ads on the rest of the web. Only downside is putting up with the yahoo mail ads.

@Garcia: The second talkback also has a corrupted stack...
And by "triggered" I meant - whatever happens here is a Firefox (Gecko) bug by definition. ABP doesn't have access to stack or application memory, it shouldn't be able to crash Firefox. But it triggers some bug that does this...
I would still like to know how it happens that Yahoo scripts together with ABP cause Firefox to crash. As I can't reproduce the problem, my best chance to find the reason is to observe the crash on a computer where it can be reproduced and do some experimenting. NetMeeting allows this, it comes pre-installed with every Windows. So, if you can spend a little time - send me a mail.
@Headwind:
That's probably the wrong topic to report your problem. I'm developing Adblock Plus 0.6+ and the problem we are talking about here occurs in Adblock Plus 0.6.1.1. Adblock Plus 0.5.x is mcm's responsibility.

From Pierceive's forums:
I shall add it to the things I will look at for Adblock+ 0.5, may take a while as I don't have much spare time at the moment.Headwind wrote:I have had the initial problem while using Adblock+ 0.5.11.2; I have now installed the Adblock+ beta 0.6.1.1. In my case, the crashes occur ONLY when I go to compose a new email. I have whitelisted the Compose page (which, luckily enough, doesn't have ads...) with the following filterGarcia wrote:OK folks, I have a working solution (actually 2) for the adblock / yahoo mail crashing problem.

I've been going through the same headaches as Garcia and found this board trying to tackle them. In my case, it was solidly a Yahoo Mail and Gmail problem. New profiles didn't help. Safe Mode worked most of the time (although I found some sites that will even crash FF in Safe Mode --IT Conversations, I'm looking at you). I disabled Adblock+, but still had the problems. Finally just did a super-scrub of FF from my system and reinstalled without adblock or adblock+, so far with no problems. AND IT'S KILLING ME... It's like walking out of a peaceful library into a mob, so many ads screaming at me to hit the monkey...
So: From what I've dug up, it's a jscript issue, and Yahoo knows about this as well. Has it been fixed? No. (It almost feels like a content-provider conspiracy to crash the browser --"Nix our ads, will you? Try browsing with a crippled page!") But here's some info that could be of use:
The mail buttons that get axed out of Yahoo when you block yimg.com all have this as their primary string:
http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i*
The other buttons, ads, etc., start us.ard.yahoo, or have the yimg.com prefix with some other letter than i near the end (often an r). You could try whitelisting http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i*.
And checking the javascript and the javascript console; all the problems I can find are with js3250.dll, and after opening Gmail and Yahoo, the console shows loads of errors with:
<html><head><meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"><script></script></head><script>try {var loaded=true;if (top.js.init) {top.js._GP(window);}} catch(e) {}</script>
For Yahoo, there are problems with the css, and a problem with this script:
<script type="text/javascript">
function Help(link)
{
window.open(link,"help","width=400,height=500,scrollbars=yes,dependent=yes");
}
if(document.cookie != "" && document.cookie.indexOf("g0yAEB") == -1)
