Right-Click "Adblock Image" Not Always Available

Some images I want to block are not allowed "blockage" for some reason. For example, there are images associated with news stories in news.google.com that I sometimes want to use AdBlock to ignore, but when I right-click on them, there is no AdBlock image. On the other hand, the option does apear when I right-click on the Google logo at the page. Hoping someone can give me some insight on this.

Thanks!

Probably that images are Adobe/Shockwave Flash objects. Are they animated? Context menu for them says something like "About Adobe Flash Player…"

There is option Show tabs on Flash and Java, but I usually use blockable items list with "object" in "Search:" edit box. No need for pixel-hunting.

The images to the left of the news does not have a adblock on context menu. How do you block the image? thx.

I know this reply comes a bit late, but I think people might be interested to know that you *can* block those. I found this way to do it: remove the 'data' parameter from 'extensions.adblockplus.whitelistschemes' in about:config. In this way, the images are displayed in the blockable items and you can block them. Since I have a default blocking filter *, the page you are referring to gives me the following blocked images (of course they change all the time with each new news item):

Code: Select all

I'm in Russia. Your list of blockable items will be different. I found my solution by looking at the 'Page Info' (right-click menu) - 'Media' in Firefox . Almost anything Firefox sees, AdblockPlus can block. Hope this helps. :=)

I modified extensions.adblockplus.whitelistschemes in about:config as suggested by p2u

removing data such that it now is comprised of

Code: Select all

about chrome file irc news resource snews x-jsd addbook cid imap mailbox nntp pop javascript moz-icon
reloading _http://news.google.com/news/section?pz=1&cf=all&topic=s

I still cannot block the data:uri images in the left column, nor do they display in "open blockable"

Definitely data:URI as revealed by properties
data:image/jpeg;base64,/9j/4AAQS....

The data:URI are, however, shown in the Page Info, media tab, in grey italics

It would be nice to have an AdBlock Plus context menu in the address page of Page Info, media ;)

Same issue here, the below is not a blockable item from http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/cat ... l-comment/
It's a dynamically loading GIF from stylesheet, encoded in base64 no less:

Code: Select all

#npBreadcrumbs .npBcH, #npBreadcrumbs .npBcP, .npHot .npHotPre {
    background-image: url("data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhCgDSAOZfANPT08PDwzw8PI2Njff395GRkcTExPj4+MfHx/r6+q2trfn5+f7+/pqamtDQ0MbGxufn5/b29ujo6K6urvT09Lm5udTU1ICAgKurq4GBgc/Pz1BQULCwsLu7u+Pj47q6uvPz883NzeTk5NbW1o+Pj4ODg2pqak9PT+vr6+bm5unp6aysrNLS0m5ubuLi4urq6piYmKmpqZmZmczMzIKCgt/f3/X19ZSUlJubm9HR0ZWVldfX11FRUT4+PrS0tHJycsXFxZeXl2tra87Ozn5+fp2dnUtLS9jY2Do6OkxMTKqqqri4uGxsbNra2j8/P29vb8LCwm1tbeXl5fDw8E5OTo6OjlRUVNXV1WlpaaioqIyMjDY2Nr+/v4mJif///////wAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACH5BAEAAF8ALAAAAAAKANIAAAf/gC1dg4SEAjSFhVsbiYRbW1GNXY8CGY2Pi5eYTImYW5WKniehnkKOnp8Xg6iPo5OsWyavrAIXsI9Ut1tGt0hEt1iznkmrqLXFnrLIj4ynlJbOW4KkPJo9JZpPkltWkl1O2JI/3l0KXOfo5wEFNl7u7+5dE/Dwgzv08V0FFPiE8/SFrgAktK9eIQUGC1l416gAiHyJEHrxBmCiJIfkVpDL4o3EFG85LCaKAZHgQ5GEKpaUl1AfP4aEjgzswqFflxsEbDbBN9EHTy86cvLkkC5dAHNF0Q3okPRclwZNuQxCWnTQgA9JCUGtSmgFV6tY0SXa6jQRBrGJBlQoO5atWamS/9SSk0EuiDctS7wpgZsIhlura/kSOvuXrOCr6Q5+xZG1SxWmXCc07VIkKgnISYlG3RzAQIKfXFTiO6eC5zkDC0afE/0unQR66VDDK8o66Wt3SQ0cwJ1UZVQIXqLq3sxis4OoUAhETRE8qQPesXc3Twcc+urZ6GS3RvcC9rmF3oF89o7C9IifD8arbhqAc/ov8OPDdwFAvnwGIVTYjx/hwYL98HlQH4AMDCEBgF9EgMB/AAqIIAMaHAigggcgKMKAAGoAAYIEIFAhgCKwgCAEDgBIwAMEAOhACgBKUeJ+HX5on4YNYihffwzeF8ILALpgAYAUIJDAfgzMgAKANYyAoDiQCHKG4JNQRinllFRWaeUXXDyZZZNadsnllwBuGaaXV5Zp5ploxudkmmy26eabcMYp55x0UslZIAA7")

While AdBlock Plus, per se, doesn't show data URIs as blockable images via the right-click context menu (since they are part of the html which we download in any case and can't avoid), you can block their appearance on the web page using the Element Hiding Helper add-on:
For the news.google.com site,

Code: Select all

news.google.com##IMG[class]
seems to work.
(AdBlock Plus version 1.3.5b.2831)
(Element Hiding Helper for AdBlock Plus 1.1.1pre2.309)
