ZeroHedge.com Green/Red vote arrows lockup under AB+

Post by marrazzo »

When running AB+ at ZeroHedge.com , reading an article, and pressing a greenORred voting arrow on comments under the article,

- the first instance of pressing the arrow gets a bit of a delay but works in a moment or so,

- the second instance of pressing the arrow gets a much longer delay, then a dialogue box saying:
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue.
Script:

Code: Select all

http://www.zerohedge.com/sites…4bacca6520e7e5572b959473903.js:12
- the third instance of pressing the arrow gets a total page reload.

This happens every single time, and only when AdBlockPlus is active on the site.
When I disable AdBlockPlus for the site, the arrows work perfectly, like flipping a toggle switch.
Commentors on the site speculate that ZH has purposely devised a means to frustrate users from deploying ad blockers there.
I'm hoping you can deploy countermeasures. :wink:

Apparently, the site page that the debugger points to changes.
It is now

Code: Select all

I don't have an account on that site, so I'm just trying...
See if these filters are working:

Code: Select all

@@||zerohedge.com^$generichide
@@|https://$script,domain=zerohedge.com,third-party
||outbrain.com^$script,domain=zerohedge.com
||taboola.com^$script,domain=zerohedge.com

mapx,
not sure how I might "See if these filters are working",
but when I Open Blockable Items on an article page,
none of the filters you show seem to be listed, and only "Outbrain" shows among the addresses.

OK mapx, I added a new filter group call ZeroHedge, added the four filters you listed to that group, enabling each one.

Upon testing, no change in symptoms.

without logging in I see no arrows, so I cannot test the page (if you want to give me in private your credentials I will test the issue)

well, well ... I reproduced the issue, but after 5 minutes I wasnt able to click any arrow anymore. Without any other unresponsive script.
I tested also in chrome: on the second click it was also some delay but no unresponsive filters.

The site is pretty heavy and cpu-intensive. Sorry, I cannot help you.

Followup:
Disabled AB+ at ZH.
Installed Ghostery, current Version 7.1.1.5 Released November 28, 2016, enabled block all ad trackers.

Previously malfunctioning arrows work fine now, and no visible ads!

well, I found out the culprit.
Disable ghostery, enable ABP and add this filter:

Code: Select all

Disable ghostery, enable ABP and add this filter:
I tried this. I entered it as a filter as written below with the @@ at the beginning and that didn't work. So I took out the @@ and it still didn't work. I don't use the filter very often is there something I missed?
