DrudgeReport site fighting blockers

Post by daveposh »

FYI.

Been using Firefox with Adblock Plus for years. Also been visiting drudgereport.com for years.

Today, for the first time got this error from my Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

(not sure the image will show from my dropbox - here is the text of it:)
----------------
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Malicious Website Blocked
Domain: bn7v3w.8m5sew59gr.bid
IP: 54.165.3.154
Port: 53472
Type: Outbound
Process: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe
Manage Web Exclusions
----------------

After searching for that weird domain name bn7v3w.8m5sew59gr.bid I found this:
"The website drudgereport.com is using advertisements which are specifically designed to circumvent ad blocking software, so it is not strange that some of adblocker's function does not work."
at https://forum.adguard.com/index.php?thr ... com.22325/

Once I told Adblock Plus to Disable on drudgereport.com, it loaded fine without causing Malwarebytes to pop up an error.
BTW - my Adblock Plus Firefox Add-on is updated to June 7, 2017.

THANK YOU! I am glad to know it is not just me! The last 48 hours and Drudge is hosed up with banner ads at the top and HUGE column ads, and no matter what I do, they won't stay blocked. Now I know why.

I hope AdBlock Plus can counteract this soon!!!!

Same problem here. Adblock Plus for Firefox has worked perfectly on Drudge for years. But on the morning of June 8th, ads everywhere on drudge.
It is still working perfectly on Safari. Hopefully a fix is in the works!

In the meantime, simply disable javascript for the site in chrome. Ads all disappear!

Yet another person having the same Drudge Report experience. I am using Firefox, and have noticed the following behavior:

The Drudge Report loads fine, without the ads. A second or two later the page "reloads", i.e. cycles in the tab but the only screen behavior is the ads appearing. The rest of the page doesn't change.

Has anyone heard anything about Adblock Plus zeroing in on a solution? I've updated my filters several times, but the ads still appear. If the Drudge Report is successful in defeating Adblock Plus, thousands of other sites are sure to follow. This could be the end of the world as we know it.
