Filter Issues LinkedIn - How to solve it myself.

Post by Marco »

I have been asking for years to get help self-diagnosing, but you guys keep encouraging me to come back here.

I get a LinkedIn popup on public profiles - when I should be able to see it without the "sign-in or sign-up" popup.
Since it only occurs on Firefox (not on IE, where a stripped down version of ADP is installed), it's a filter issue that I can't solve without you. I have Easy List and Fanboy installed. Whatever I've tried doesn't eliminate the problem. Element hiding and other filters are just not obvious to me.

Code: Select all

I had to look up the answer to your suggestion. Adding a filter to FB is different from adding a script to Grease Monkey. Although I learned something new today, please don't assume we all know this.

Does Adblock or anybody have this information on how to troubleshoot in non-technical language for us non-coders somewhere - anywhere? I am talking about far beyond what I read back in 2006 or 7. I just don't understand it.

The Obama Admin signed a law called the Perfectly Plain law. What a concept. There is nothing like a little clarity.

Well, ta da. I added the beautifully written (I assume it does exactly what it says it does) GM script.
In the process, I learned that I can disable the FB script while using the LI script. Mentioning I never used GM or any script before doesn't mean anything to anybody but me - it's my responsibility to understand how it works. I'm going to test out my new FB filter and scripts.

Social Fixer is a great alternative, in case FB makes life too difficult for some people in other locations. I read about it in Life Hacker.
Thank you.

You don't have to be a coder, you just have to read patiently and look up words you don't understand: If we tried to remove all of the "technical" language, the guides would become very long and unwieldy.

Also, UserScript has been a term in common use for years, welcome to the Web.
There's a buzzin' in my brain I really can't explain; I think about it before they make me go to bed.

I only added Greasemonkey to handle the Facebook issue a couple of months ago.

I am a patient reader and I am so practiced with a dictionary that I could often open a 3" book to the page I needed. Microsoft, no matter the language, is impossible for me to read, because it's written so poorly and contrary to MY method of learning.

So, dear lewisje, it has more to do with patience and the willingness to self-educate.

At any rate, the userscript just failed the test.
This morning, after adding the script yesterday, see screenshot.

After re-adding the script a moment ago, I tried it again.
I didn't even get the background this time - only the login popup.

Thank you.

The userscript for Linkedin doesn't work as such...although it gets rid of the registration box it also disables the page!

Linked in page (from search engine) is grayed out.

Post by Marco »

I have FF 51.0 (now updating)
using GM Hide LinkedIn popup
ABP 2.8.2 Easy List, Fanboy's Annoyances, FB social blocking.

When I link to a public profile, the page is greyed out.
I can't scroll up or down and it's intentionally difficult to see.

Is this Grease Monkey or another issue?
I have no idea if this happened when I had the popup issue (now resolved), but it seems like something with which I've been fighting forever.

Re: Filter Issues LinkedIn - hide LI Pop-up

Win 10
FF 51.0.1
GM 3.9
Hide LinkedIn Sign-up pop-up 0.20161206190050

As a new script user, the suggested additional links above do not decrease my confusion. I am back because the problem has not been solved. If I should change or supplement, please clarify further.

These are public LinkedIn profiles from search.
I rarely login to LI, nor do I want to.
I certainly do not want to join a Google+ forum to ask a question. I would avoid Google anything at all cost.

As written earlier, the issue is with public profile information, which is supposed to be readily accessible without logging in. I took up this issue with LI support who showed me how a public profile looks. When I try to view, I get nothing like the information shown.
Since the blocking is not an ABP issue, I assume the script alone doesn't work. (Of course, as an amateur, I could be wrong.)

After a couple of tries with the grayed-out background and frozen scrolling, when clicking again, it quickly devolves into just the login popup. After clearing cookies, I still got the pop-up only.
I reinstalled (or "updated") the script yesterday, as I clicked on the script I had added when it was first suggested.

Your guidance will be welcome.
Thank you.

mapx,

I don't know that I can properly report an issue or bug properly - and I have tried.
Some people get annoyed, huffy, whatever!!!!!

It's easy enough to try something new.
Could you please explain how to add that script to the Hide LI sign-up popup script?

Thank you.

Interesting and frustrating.
I thought I deleted my stuff before sending the link.

Welp, we have not progressed at all.

To anybody who knows - how do I fix the LinkedIn sign-in pop-up issue?

Since GM "Hide LI sign-in popup" script doesn't work and I don't know how to add ".advocate-modal visible (etc)," how do I test the additional script?
++++++++++++
Thank you.

I assume that by taking a few precious moments with Scratchpad, I successfully added the additional "scrolling" text to the GM script. It doesn't make a difference when I haven't seen the Greyed Out box in a long time, as I am always redirected to the login page.

After adding the 'scrolling' suggestion and saving the additional script to GM Hide LinkedIn Sign-in popup, I got a "grants" message. Do I need to worry about that?- because it's over my head - at least for today. After allowing "pasting," it certainly appears that I did add the text correctly.

AM I the only person having trouble with LI public profiles from a search engine?
It's frustrating as hell.

Thank you.

Is this an overlay or a pop-up?

Post by Marco »

Still dealing with LinkedIn.

There are overlay blockers, including one called LINKEDIN Overlay Blocker.
Neither of them work.
Perhaps if I knew what this is technically called, I could disable it.

Thank you.

Back to LinkedIn Signin Popups

Post by Marco »

FF 56.0
Windows 10
ABP development build 2.99.01893beta

Very interesting - a pleasure until it changed.

I search for people all the time using my search engine.
I avoid logging in at LI.

My issue has been viewing public profiles where the SIGN-IN PopUp almost always appears.
Most of these are professional profiles, so I have a feeling they are not hiding their general information.
The login popup grays down the page (which freezes it) so you cannot scroll, either.

That aside, I tried the perfect Greasemonkey script but it doesn't work anymore.

For two days this week, the popup would show for a split second and then DISAPPEAR so that I could see the info underneath.
It was REMARKABLE! (I can see! I can see!)
A temporary reprieve - it was gone today. The only updates I am aware of are three ABP filters lists.

This is an ongoing annoyance, so if you can solve this...
Thank you.
