Difficult to "translate" as long as the same (firefox) developers are still trying to understand the true reason of the bug.

there must be some kind of misunderstanding between firefox and abp, it has the block element deactivated on adfree sites (like the addons page for example), so something must let it think FB is one of the sites where it must be disabled as well

No, the issue is with other extensions too.
We could only wait for a firefox fix.

Install ABP beta:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addo ... sions/beta

and use the "block element" feature (clicking ABP icon, "block element") to replace (not so strong ...) EHH.

I tried downloading the beta version (Version 3.0.1.1927 beta) and the 'Block Element" option is there. Before Firefox updated to Quantum I was able to use it fine, but now when I click it the popup box is blank. I tried just pasting the URL of what I wanted to block but when I hit "ADD" it does nothing. I mean, the popup doesn't go away or anything thing, it just sits there blocking my view and not adding the element I want to block.

The empty popup is a firefox bug, see:
https://issues.adblockplus.org/ticket/5817

To add custom filters:

go into the options menu of abp, then to advanced, where you can edit your custom filter list. You can add any filter you like there, just make sure to save them all for backup (in a text document will suffice) just in case

For testing purposes, here is another site (besides FB) where the Block Element feature is missing:

this bug must be a really tough nut to crack. Or it hasn't been looked into yet. All I want is to hide things I don't need/disturb me on my timeline page *sigh*
