adblock has been installed tab on every browser launch

Post by Hike »

Hi,

Adblock Plus (3.5) for Firefox (66.0, macos) won't stop opening the "Adblock has been successfully installed" tab whenever I launch Firefox. Never had that problem before.

Un- and reinstalling Adblock didn't help, btw.

Best,

Ok, that would be not an option. I guess I'll just switch to another blocker.

Hike,
I was initially having the same problem with FF 66.0 64 bit..

What I did, and it seems to have fixed it, was to click the Adblock icon at the upper right.
Click on the Gear icon.
Go to Advanced and click on the "Update All Filters List".

I've launched FF many times after the filter update and it appears the problem went away.

Good luck with your FF.

My proposed fix above only work for the day. :oops:
The following day the problem was back.
I'll have to research it a little more.

Hello guys! We are currently investigating this issue and hope a resolution soon. Can you recall which Firefox Version you were using prior to the update? We seem to have a hint that the issue may be linked to users updating from older versions than the immediate previous version. This information is certainly helpful! Hope to hear from you soon!

Thanks

I'm also having this problem. I think it started with Firefox 64-bit update to 68.0. My ABP version is 3.5.2 on Win7 latest.

Hi there!

Thanks for letting us know you are having this issue. The developers at Mozilla are working on getting this sorted. In the meantime, some users have found success by creating a new Firefox Profile. Others resolved this by removing Adblock Plus using the the instructions in this link https://help.eyeo.com/en/adblockplus/un ... s?5de59f86, and reinstalling via https://adblockplus.org. Let us know if this helps!

Thanks

I realize this is an old thread, but I've been having this issue & it's still ongoing (it's now Sept 14), others elsewhere have said ditching our FF profiles & starting over with a new one doesn't work, plus it seems odd to insist it's a corrupt FF user profile when people have the same ABP launch page problem with other browsers.

@lmdtx

Thanks for reaching out to us! Have you already tried a new FF profile or a fresh reinstall? These steps tend to prove successful in more cases than not. We'd love to hear your feedback on this. Let us know if it works for you. In the meantime, The developers over at FF are still working on getting this resolved.

Thanks

@fabrizcaidyn

Some of the older issues were due to symptoms related to local storage, this issue is a different one with the same symptom if that makes sense. Users have resolved by creating a new Firefox profile.You can find instructions for doing so here. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/doc ... e_profiles. Let us know if this helps!

Thanks

This bug has been reported for months and months with the same cookie cutter response (try a new profile, reinstall ABP). I am now (Dec. 27) also running into this very annoying issue.

Does ABP actually expect the average user to create a new profile and migrate over all their old extensions, settings and bookmarks? To have to do that every time it occurs is bothersome and time consuming.

When will an actual update that fixes this problem come out, one that doesn't require the user to jump through hoops to make it work?

@Sonicsnout @Scuda9 Thanks for your feedback! We're terribly sorry to hear you are experiencing this annoyance and are not happy with the work arounds. The current issue has to be resolved on the Firefox side of things. We're still working with them to get things sorted. Also on our end, we're working with our UI team to offer an alternative to the first run page all together. Many apologies for the annoyance.

Thanks
