How do i permanently get rid of that stupid donation request advert on wikpedia. I am sick of clicking the x to close it

That post you're referring to is already a couple of years old and that filter is no longer supported. Generally, you can add such filters in the Advanced tab of the extension's settings page.
However, it's usually easier to use the "Block element" button in the icon popup. It lets you select the element on the page you want to hide/block by generating an appropriate filter for you.
