Received an error saying Adblock Premium is discontinued

Post by Zerios »

On 10th February 2015 around 7.30pm, I was in the middle of watching a youtube video when I received an error message:

Adblock Premium has been discontinued due to legal infringements, and will be uninstalled automatically.

So what happen to Adblock Premium??

This forum is dedicated to ABP (adblock plus).

probably you have a lot of adblockers. Bad idea ...
keep only adblock plus ! (remove adblock, adblock premium (some crap))

install adblock plus (ABP) from: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... fddb?hl=en

i started getting the same pop-up - saying 'adblock premium is discontinued install adblock plus'

whenever i start chrome - it opens it's own tab

Image

i only have adblock premium running

if adblock plus is doing this - how do i turn it off?

this is the address of the page - it seem to be originating from ABP:

en/_chrome_install_frame?chrome-extensi ... tion2.html

-go into extensions page and remove premium (click chrome settings icon, more tools, extensions)
-remove premium
-install adblock plus

or

if still happens: reset chrome https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3296214
install ABP

i don't like captive advertising like this

if Adblock premium is being discontinued - i'd like to find my own solution.

is the above popup screen originating from APB?

can you help me disable this annoying tab/popup? (i tried resetting defaults - no worky)

it's originating from adblock premium.
Did you reset chrome ? Are you using chrome sync ? in this case go into your google account dashboard and remove all the sync stuff.
Then install what do you want.

You could try also uninstall chrome, delete all the chrome profile folders , reinstalling chrome and extensions.

will try chrome uninstall

thanks for your help

if it is coming from AdBlock Premium, then why does it call a URL from AdBlock Plus?

en/_chrome_install_frame?chrome-extensi ... tion2.html

means the offending URL is residing on AdBlock Plus' site. No?

Anybody can post a URL to anybody else's public-facing Website without the knowledge or consent of the site the URL links to (this is a fundamental principle of the Web); the point is that like Simple Adblock before it, Adblock Premium is closing up shop and recommending Adblock Plus to its users.

What I don't understand, however, is why the extension isn't redirecting its users to AdBlock, which it is a copycat of: http://support.getadblock.com/discussio ... ck-premium

It is like they copied AdBlock - but AB want's nothing to do with it.

The people over at Google cant (or won't) tell me anything about the developers of AdBlock Premium.

As the message says, Adblock Premium has been discontinued. In fact, it was never a real product - rather an outdated copy of an existing open source extension trying to monetize on people who search for "Adblock" and are unsure which one they should choose. This approach is becoming increasingly popular and we are constantly shutting down such operations. Unfortunately, by the time we succeeded with Adblock Premium it already accumulated a significant user base and we had to do something about it. So we worked out a migration plan - if somebody already has Adblock Plus installed (a very large percentage of Adblock Premium users) then they will merely see the message cited in the first post here and Adblock Premium will uninstall automatically. If they don't have Adblock Plus they will see the migration page and replacing Adblock Premium by Adblock Plus should be matter of two clicks. Once the migration is complete we will remove that extension.

why has ABP not put the kibosh on AdBlock using it's name?
