Fixed CBS.com, Now NBC/MSNBC.com Ads?

Post by soniclight »

Thanks to ABP, I have had ad-free at NBC/MSNBC as well as ABC for a long time.
I could be a coincidence, not related, but odd.
Pretty much simultaneous.

A) Added this that fixed CBS.com - for now:

Code: Select all

@@||pubads.g.doubleclick.net/gampad/ads?*rule=$domain=cbs.com
@@|http://$xmlhttprequest,image,domain=cbs.com
@@/adblock$domain=cbs.com
@@||ifmnwi.club$domain=cbs.com
secure.meetup.com##A[class="message-authorName j-authorName"]
cbs.com#@##adbottom

B). Updated ABP for the first time in a while.

Went to NBC and MSNBC within an hour or so, and now ads are appearing in both. So, removed the above CBS filter code in case it was somehow causing this (not likely). Didn't make any difference.

I don't own an HDTV or have cable due to having only a Soc. Security disability fixed income, so rely on Net-only to view my fave shows.

  • Q-1: Has NBC/MSNBC recently gotten more agressive against ad-blocking and it was just a weird coincidence? Or did the ABP update change something that they now have succeeded in nuking?

    Q-2: What filter code can I add to fix both NBC and MSNBC?
As implied, I want network-wide blocking, not individual shows.
Thanks for any assistance.

Try updating your lists. Yesterday a lot of sites (including github, twitter, ...) were down due to a big DDOS attack.

Thanks, read about the mega-attack, though it wasn't a problem of site access. Pages loaded, videos played fine, just had and still have ads.

In terms of updating lists, this is the first time I've gone into ABP to add the aforementione CBS script. What do you mean by updating? I updated the ABP extension within Chrome as I stated in OP. Thanks.

Hi all, can confirm that MSNBC.com is loading and playing commercials on their streaming content. Have searched for solutions but haven't had any luck. If anyone has custom filters that would help, much obliged! My easy list is definitely up-to-date.

http://www.nbc.com/this-is-us/video/series-premiere/3100176

Has anyone come up with a workaround to the recent changes to msnbc.com's news that started in January of 2018 ?

I cant get the web-page to even load completely... It starts loading then abruptly stops and I am forwarded to a plain white web-page telling me that msnbc is not allowed to load because Im using an ad-blocker - and telling me to shut off all adblocking software.

Thus far I havent found any listing online about how to fix this problem.

Any Ideas ?

I cannot reproduce the issue. Try using only ABP and disable all other extensions.
