"Waiting for extension" BUG - fixed in dev build

It seems as if the ad blocker is wrecking the entire functionality of my browser, as the youtube video I was watching would not load any further, no new pages would open (it would just say "Waiting for AdBlock Plus" in the bottom left corner), and I couldn't click on the AdBlock Plus icon to switch it off or change settings. This issue was resolved when I disabled or deleted AdBlock Plus. I disabled and enabled it multiple times, as well as deleting it and re-downloading it multiple times. The issue has not been resolved. I really like this AdBlocker and would like to keep using it, so if there is a way to fix this, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Waiting for a fix from the devs, disable ABP and install other adblocker (stronger..): ublock origin

I'm having the same issue - for me it seems to have started last night. EVERY TAB suddenly hangs and says it's waiting on ABP; going into Extensions and toggling ABP off instantly resolves the issue, without even needing to remove the extension fully or restart Chrome.

I had the same problem with Gmail and ABP, so I started using Firefox with ABP for my Gmail account. No problems there so far.

What are the chances that the people at ABP will fix this?

Thanks for the feedback. Disabling and again re-enabling the extension is a temporary fix which has been effective for some users. We'll keep investigating this to come up with a more lasting solution.

That seems to work.

How do you enable the special features like malware blocking and blocking social media buttons? They're shown in the slider at the bottom of the linked page, but I don't see anything about them in general tools or advanced tools.

For malware protection go to en/subscriptions#type_malware
and add the second list from that section (click Subscribe: Malware Domains)

Thank you very much for building such a nice extension which gets rid of all annoying ads and allow us clean experience on all sites.

Recently, My chrome is getting stuck loading pages. Even my router page doesn't load. When I uninstall ABP. Everything loads and works normally. Then, I reinstall extension again and it works fine. Frequency is like once in 2 days. When sites are stuck and doesn't load. At the bottom left corner I see "Waiting for adblock plus" and nothing works.


Just wanted you guys to know about this bug.

Hi there!

After updating Chrome to Version 70.0.3538.110 (Windows 10)
Through surfing Adblock Plus has a anormal high CPU usage (checked through Chrome Taskmanager).
Sometimes the CPU usage jumps to 120% and has for a very long time 100%.
While hanging the extension symbol is not left clickable so i think the extension is hung up.
After uninstall the extension the browser works normal.
