Every time I go to
https://search.yahoo.com
and do a search, it pops up a REALLY ANNOYING banner, that asks me to change my homepage to Yahoo.
Here is an example pic:

I can block this element with AdBlock Plus in Firefox, but can't block it with AdBlock Plus in Chrome.
Can anybody tell me why I can't block this in Chrome?
I even tried to copy the AdBlock Plus filter list from Firefox to Chrome, hoping that the AdBlock Plus filter block that is working in Firefox, might be moved to Chrome, but it didn't work.
Please help.
Thanks
Can't Block An Element In Chrome That I Can In Firefox
Re: Can't Block An Element In Chrome That I Can In Firefox
try this filter
Code: Select all
search.yahoo.com###browserExtensionPromotionBanner
Re: Can't Block An Element In Chrome That I Can In Firefox
I already had that filter in my filter list.
It works with AdBlock Plus in Firefox, but not in AdBlock Plus in Chrome.
There appears to be a glitch the Chrome version.
If I open Chrome, then click on the AdBlock Plus Icon, then choose Block Element, it won't even highlight the element, so that I can block it like I did in Firefox. That's why I entered the filter list from Firefox to Chrome manually, but it still won't block it. Like I said it appears that AdBlock Plus is not working correctly in Google Chrome.
I'm Using Windows 7 (64-bit) OS with Firefox Quantum 62.0.3 (32-bit) and Google Chrome Version 71.0.3578.98 (64-bit) just so you know.
I wonder if AdBlock Plus doesn't play nice with the 64-bit version of Chrome?

Re: Can't Block An Element In Chrome That I Can In Firefox
Did you disable the acceptable ads ?
Re: Can't Block An Element In Chrome That I Can In Firefox
Do you mean did I switch the "Block ads on:" button to the right?
If that's what you mean. Yes I did.

No.
Go into ABP options (last icon on the top right when you click ABP icon), in the General tab unselect (turn OFF) Allow Acceptable Ads

Re: Can't Block An Element In Chrome That I Can In Firefox
OK. Did it. It seemed to do the trick. Thank you so much.
What was that option doing that caused it to stop the filter search.yahoo.com###browserExtensionPromotionBanner from being blocked?
It's weird that it didn't cause an issue in Firefox, but did in Chrome.
Oh wow. I just checked Firefox and it WASN'T checked. I have no idea how it got checked in Chrome.
That's why there was a difference in behavior between the two browsers.

Re: Can't Block An Element In Chrome That I Can In Firefox
It's about the non intrusive ads which .. can help the sites to get some ... money.
However, whitelisting certain ads could have such effects
read about https://acceptableads.com/
Check your FF ABP options, probably the acceptable ads are OFF there.

Re: Can't Block An Element In Chrome That I Can In Firefox
Yeah I did, and you were right.
You answered before I could edit my last post reply. So if you didn't see it. I did check and found that Firefox was indeed unchecked.
I have no idea how it got checked in Chrome.
Thanks again.
