Adblock Plus all of a sudden not effective although enabled

My Adblock Plus seems to be running perfectly fine, yet I suddenly see ads again on news websites, YouTube and others. It was working fine yesterday and has been for years. It's not disabled, a restart has not helped; neither did re-installing. What could it be?

My AdBlock Plus was working fine yesterday. Just started to watch YouTube and got a lot of ads. Got a message that said: This item has been disabled in Chrome. Enable this item. But it wouldn't enable. Help!
