I'm testing one simple rule:
facebook.com$domain=~facebook.com
The like button IS hidden, but developer tools Network tab shows it is still obtained from the network.
I'm using Adblock Plus 2.4.2 and according to the changelog on the chrome extension page it should not only hide but block too.
Am I doing something wrong, or is it still not blocking all content and still hiding some?

Re: Blocking & Hiding
Facebook uses multiple domains, not just "facebook.com"
Re: Blocking & Hiding
That may very well be, but this like button is coming from facebook.com:
Request URL:http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.ph ... &height=21
Response:
Date:Mon, 09 May 2011 07:17:46 GMT
That's a fresh request to like.php, not cached or anything, so just the simple single rule does not work.
It's an iframe, not dynamically loaded.
Even this socal networking blocklist doesn't work:
https://monzta.maltekraus.de/adblock_social.txt
All of the buttons disappear, but all of them are still loaded from network and all tracking & tracing still happens.

If I visit
http://www.nu.nl/binnenland/2510318/ned ... ukkig.html
In Firefox all Facebook content seems to be blocked using my Antisocial list (And I suspect the same would be true for the list you linked to).
Might be a Chrome specific issue.

Re: Blocking & Hiding
That's why I'm asking.
I know Adblock for Chrome didn't do full blocking where Firefox did, only hiding in the past. But the changelog seemed to indicate otherwise and with debugging on, there is the distinction between 'Purging' and CHROME PURE BLOCK I believe, so I wondered exactly what happend and though I'd ask here.
I'm using Chrome, mainly because I works much better in mijn Linux 3 monitor NVidia setup. There is lots of display lag with certain apps (Firefox and Deluge are prime examples), otherwise I would/could use Firefox instead.

Re: Blocking & Hiding
You are using Adblock for Chrome 2.4.2, not Adblock Plus - absolutely not the same thing. Adblock Plus for Chrome can be found here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... cddilifddbt0mm1e wrote:I'm using Adblock Plus 2.4.2 and according to the changelog on the chrome extension page it should not only hide but block too.
Re: Blocking & Hiding
Indeed, thanks, my bad.
Works much better the real Plus!
Still a few counting pixels slipping through, but most of the rules now work!

Re: Blocking & Hiding
At heart it's a timing issue, which should be resolved when some new API is released to the Stable channel allowing content to be blocked just as well as in Safari or Firefox.
There's a buzzin' in my brain I really can't explain; I think about it before they make me go to bed.
