I visit a site:
http://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/
which often loads quite slowly. I have heard
http://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/408697
that the problem is "Its the background image.. chrome (or rather webkit) has a bug related to it..
If you have the adblock plugin.. block the background image.. you should notice the site appear to run faster.. it is a very annoying bug."
So I found the cache entries for the two main background images that load with Chrome. The images are:
http://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/Th ... ody.bg.jpg
http://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/Th ... ter.bg.jpg
I have a recent version of Adblock (2.4.22) on Chrome (13.something). I go to the Adblock options page and select "Manually edit your filters:" and paste in the two background image locations, and then press Save. Yet even after restarting the browser and verifying that my additions were indeed saved, the background images are still downloaded and then displayed (and, probably, cause much of the browser lag I experience on that site).
Adding other custom filters seems to work though.
What is the problem? Why aren't the background images on that forum blocked? If this cannot be accomplished using Adblock, is there any other tool I could use to block the download or display of both of those images in Chrome?
Thanks.

Re: Cannot get very simple custom image block to work
did you try block them with hosts file ?moron923753 wrote:No one?
Re: Cannot get very simple custom image block to work
That would block the entire forums.sinsofasolarempire/* domain, right? But if that happens, I can't access the site I'm trying to access!mapx wrote:did you try block them with hosts file ?moron923753 wrote:No one?
Re: Cannot get very simple custom image block to work
probably you right
I'm using iron browser if you know it.
iron has a builtin adblock (there is adblock.ini), which can block your items and not the domain
iron is still quickly then chrome

Re: Cannot get very simple custom image block to work
That's what the adblock for Chrome is also supposed to be able to do also, but it fails to block the background images.mapx wrote:iron has a builtin adblock (there is adblock.ini), which can block your items and not the domain
Re: Cannot get very simple custom image block to work
adblock.ini has a less powerful syntax but *is* able to reliably keep content from downloading; however, once that WebRequest API is finalized in Chrome, ABP will be able to do this too
There's a buzzin' in my brain I really can't explain; I think about it before they make me go to bed.
