[app launcher] ABP for chrome not working

Post by Raeksis »

No idea how long this has been going on for but I've had enough of the 30 second youtube ads I'm forced to sit through. I have adblock plus installed but I'm still seeing a myriad of ads. When I access options (which btw I can only do from the Chrome extensions page since the icon is missing from the URL bar) I get this:

Nothing I click there does a thing. So therefore I can't add the Easylist filter which seems to have been deleted somehow.

I've tried the following:
-Removed and readded adblock plus as well as adblock various times to get them to work - and they do.... until I close Chrome and relaunch it.
-Went from the Beta Channel to Dev Channel to Stable Channel. Only change is occasionally when I launch chrome adblock will suddenly be working. But of course the next time I launch it it's back to normal
-Deleted 'Default' folder several times
-Deleted 'File System' folder several times
-Removed all extensions then just added adblock plus
-Disabled Instant Extended API Mac, Windows, Chrome OS

it seems to be the "old" chromium bug they didnt yet find a solution
from the sticky topic try the first 1
forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=17955

also, try working (for test) keeping only windows firewall and disabling all other security software (and also cleaning software)
go also in your plugins settings and disable the antivirus plugins (avast, avg, comodo ...)

Tried all those, no change.

Maybe this is just a coincidence but I'm finding adblock works fine when I launch Chrome from the regular shortcut/exe etc. as opposed to my usual method of using the fairly new chrome app launcher. Is there some incompatibility with adblock when using that?

I think this finding should be reported as a bug of sorts if it can be reproduced

This fixed the problem for me.
Google broke something using their new app launcher, and pinning it to the taskbar and launching from there fixed the problem.

This here seems to have messed up several independent issues. If any of those should still exist after having followed the recommended instructions, please file a detailed report at https://issues.adblockplus.org/
