An update for Acceptable Ads

Post by Till »

Hi all,
Today we're making a few minor updates to the Acceptable Ads criteria. The core values of the criteria won’t change; instead, the idea is to make Acceptable Ads easier to understand, while providing an ideal starting point for an independent committee to take over control of the criteria in 2016.

For more details, please refer to this blog post:
blog/acceptable-ads-evolves-transparency-too

The updated criteria are available here: en/acceptable-ads#criteria

In case you have yet to read this post ... it directly mentions ad block plus regarding effort to enhance quality of ads

what is going on with Adblock plus? first was Taboola (which aren't using text links only, this includes images ads too), and it was tolerated up to a certain point.
then came outbrain whitelist ads, then Revcontent ads.

I am guessing that money is driving Eyeo GmbH crazy and the are willing to destroy Adblock concept in the name of "Justice for the site owners".

if site owners want to make money from Adblock users they can use the un-annoying Adsense text ads, instead Eyeo gives us every company that is willing to pay the must.

I know that I can opt-out from "acceptable ads" program and I don't want to, I think that site owners should earn from Adblock users and I am fine with that concept, but it is coming to a point where "acceptable ads" program is becoming more and more like the real world.

According to
acceptable-ads#criteria-specific
Image ads
Static image ads may qualify as acceptable, according to an evaluation of their unobtrusiveness based on their integration on the webpage.
What is not considered an Acceptable Ad?

Generally oversized image ads
If you are using firefox (and still want to keep acceptable ads):

what about this:
outbrain ads are whitelisted too, on the biggest site in IL, taking 80% of my screen and showing everywhere.

and this is just one example.

and another Outbrain ads taking most of my screen on fxp.co.il:

same here with Taboola ads:

Hi, my company is interested to whitelist our site on ABP.

However, I can't seem to access the application form. Could you guys advise on this?
Thanks!

Maybe it was a temporary problem; that link works fine for me.
There's a buzzin' in my brain I really can't explain; I think about it before they make me go to bed.

Hi,

We're sorry that you're leaving! But just for clarification: the Acceptable Ads initiative started in 2011. Since then, we have unblocked thousands of 'Acceptable Ads' in compliant publishers and ad networks.

Thanks.
