Ads flashing for a second before being blocked

Post by mngos »

Opera's adblock extension seems to load ads first and then blocks them. Whereas on Firefox's adblock addon, it blocks them before they load. It's not on all websites, but I've noticed it on a couple.

The page is one of infinite scrolling type, so I cannot understand how to (quickly) see that panel at the bottom page.

Here I've posted screenshots of what's happening on that site in the span of like 1.5 seconds. You might be able to see it too by zooming out with Ctrl + "-" on opera.

This doesn't occur in Firefox + Adblock by the way. I just tested it.

No, I cannot reproduce your issue.
You could try clearing cookies / cache, disable all other extensions, keep only ABP and test again.
I tested using only easylist list in ABP.

I cleared my cache and retested it. Adblock is my only extension on Opera. Same results.

Just to be sure: are you using ABP or AB ?

yeah, I used the same versions of opera and ABP.
Last try: does it happen on every refresh of the page or ... only on the opera start (with that page as start page) ?

well, I managed to reproduce the "issue".
Probably in your ABP are enabled the acceptable ads (see options, "Allow some non-intrusive advertising"). Try disabling it.

Okay, I changed it, restarted opera and tested it.

Still the same.

it could be something interfering with your browser / extensions, such as an antivirus plugin in opera
it happens for me only in enabling the acceptable ads (which means another list possibly slowing down ABP on heavy pages)

Like I said, I don't any other extensions on Opera and I don't have anti-virus plugins either.

I don't get this issue with Firefox, so I figure it must be something different about the opera version of ABP.
