While we all appreciate the effort made to make Adblock for Android. It doesn't.
Configuring it manually as instructed causes all kind of issues.
1) CNN video wont play
2) Youtube wont play or very sporadic
3) Pop-Up ads still occur
Adblock a Mess for Android
Re: Adblock a Mess for Android
We agree that ABP needs a considerable amount of work on the Android.
In our experience, web browsing using the AOSB is generally hassle-free (we can't vouch for any other browser though).
The main problem we experience are with dedicated apps. Thus far we cannot use the following without difficulty:-
i) CNN - video will not play; caught in 'loading material' loop.
ii) PayPal - cannot login at all.
iii) Gumtree - login successful but access of any account details, saved searches etc. fails with infinite loading loop (even stressing Wi-Fi to point of failure).
These are the only three apps to date that we have encountered issues with.
Others such as YouTube, eBay, Amazon work without issue (for us).
Wrt i) CNN, a work-around is to add the address z.cdn.turner.com to the 'Bypass proxy' list under the Wi-Fi settings. Of course this does mean that the CNN app will display adverts (which does rather defeat the object) but it does remove (hopefully) any impediments to rest of the web. As for CNN adverts, they appear to be restricted to the article list pages, as opposed to the in content/video media.
We have tried the same kind of 'solution' for the PayPal & Gumtree apps but have not found any addresses that work.
