AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer
Re: AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer
I'm a realist, not a conspiracy buff. I was simply illustrating versions have been released for nearly every other available web browser out there, except IE. There can only be a few reasons for this, and just raising some possible explanations as to why that could be in my previous post. There was no rage, or paranoia, just honest guess work. Clearly if you can develop ad-block for every other web browser on the market, there should be NO problem developing software to work with IE. IE has the largest user base. It would do nothing but improve visibility for Ad-block software. I've worked in the IT world in Redmond and Seattle for 10 years. I have some experience with software and development schedules, and you are correct, IT projects are ALWAYS behind schedule. I have nothing but faith in the software developers, and I'm sorry to be a little overbearing on my previous post, but its just not ringing true when the web browser (IE) with the largest user base gets the least attention from Adblock.
Re: AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer
Well, the devs behind ABP are known not to participate much on the forums (sigh), so the scarceness of their posts doesn't hopefully reflect the work they are putting in their extension (including ABP for IE).

Re: AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer
The IE extension (a.k.a. "BHO") system isn't nearly as easy to work with as the extension systems of other browsers; read again this blog post from back when ABP was a one-man operation (the only thing that has changed is that it's not just Palant himself working on it anymore): http://adblockplus.org/blog/adblock-for ... -an-optionstorm-chaser wrote:Clearly if you can develop ad-block for every other web browser on the market, there should be NO problem developing software to work with IE.
Honestly, I was surprised that Palant & Co. even announced ABP for IE, considering how much harder it would be than making a normal browser extension.
There's a buzzin' in my brain I really can't explain; I think about it before they make me go to bed.
Re: AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer
That blog post that exudes derision for IE just proves storm-chaser's point, no crazy conspiracy about it.

Re: AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer
Hello everybody
Although I'm not an IE fan :
In fact it seems there is a built-in adblock in IE
manage adds-on, protection against tracking, activate it
The lists are available here
http://www.iegallery.com/fr-fr/addons (or its English equivalent)
Choose the tab "protection against tracking", choose "easylist standard" (for me, French)
It seems this "protection against tracking" is an euphemism for "ad blocking" and the effect seems absolutely the same.
(IE10 for Windows 7 has just been released)

Re: AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer
Tracking protection only blocks third party ads. Also it doesn't block in-video
ads.I'm using Adfender as adblocker in IE,tracking protection lists and Fanboy's
CSS filter for Opera.Adfender doesn't support Element hiding. You can copy custom
filters from ABP Firefox.

I don't understand.Luxferre wrote:Tracking protection only blocks third party ads.
Doesn't it depend on the associated list ?
With Easylist, shouldn't it block everything previewed in the list ?
What is a third party ad ?

I installed Adfender. In IE10 I desactivated tracking protection.
It's not so good as Adblock Plus
It has effect on all my browsers : IE, Chrome, FF. Canary and Chromium included
Double filter when Adblock plus is active
In IE10 I tried tracking protection again : it blocks the the same ads as adfender
Thanks
Re: AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer
In Adfender settings you can choose browsers you wish Adfender to work with.
Applications-Browsers
I checked only IE.First party ads are from the site itself.

Re: AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer
Thks, i had not seen browser details.
I take it for IE10 and I desactivate tracking protection
The best would be Adblock Plus for IE.

Re: AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer
New Avast 8 Free has option to enable adblockers in IE,Firefox and Chrome.I was just testing IE
version.Icon is placed in status bar.It has option to chose language version of list (Easylist?) and
option to exclude sites from adblocking. There is no conflict with Tracking Protection lists. It is basic
adblocker and it is not so bad.IE10 in Windows 7 was even faster than it is.Still, Adfender is better
because you can add custom filters and you can configure more staff.I guess we are waiting for
the winner - Adblock Plus for IE.

Thanks for the interesting post !
Re: AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer
Avast's ad blocker is powered by Adblock plus, but rather a Lite version. The addon for Firefox is also a lite version.
Re: AdBlock Plus for Internet Explorer
It looks like auto-updating of tracking protection lists is broken in IE10 for windows 7.It was working
fine in IE9.It was broken in IE10 "beta" and Microsoft didn't fix it in final version.I had to remove all
TPL's and install them again to update them.It is annoying to reinstall TPLs every day.I know that
Malware Domains list is updated daily.Microsoft sucks.
