Failing to block yahoo email ads, Can't force update on IE

My puter won't download W10, I have W7 and right now I am using IE. Adblock plus is failing completely at blocking ads on my yahoo email These ads are in a terrible place, they make it easy to click on and I hate it. I have tried removing and reinstalling ABP. I can't force an update as the icon just tells me I am up to date. On Chrome I can force an update. This needs to get fixed as this is one of the reasons I use ad block plus. I should be able to force an update that gets rid of these ads.

I had a problem with ads appearing on a newspaper website. the solution proposed worked for me:

close IE
-go to ABP for IE folder, delete patterns.ini
-open IE, the list (easylist) should download
-test again

the folder with patterns.ini is at:
%userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Adblock Plus for IE\

(%userprofile% is your user profile directory, like "C:\Users\YourUser")

well, in this case ABP fails to hide the ad at the top of yahoo inbox mail

anyway, yahoo is a big mess ultimately.
