goha.ru Does adblock supposed to block non ad content?
We are MMORPG gaming portal. We produce a lot of content like articles about games, game review, game guides etc.
We are online for 12 years and we are well known in our country and all around the world, we have good reputation.
My question:
Does adblock supposed to block non ad content?
Like web site visitor statistics?
Like website navigation menu?
Like non ad videos, service scripts (those wich giving basic and advanced UI functions) and such?
I've noticed, that last few months adblock just killing our entire web site instead of killing just ads.
Could you, please help us?

Re: Does adblock supposed to block non ad content?
It can block anything, based on URL patterns; it's just marketed as an ad-blocker.
The only kind of request that ABP does not block is from the URL bar (a.k.a. the document request), but other content-blocking technology does block that.
Lots of people don't like to be tracked and don't want to be connected to domains known to be primarily used to send malware, so they subscribe to EasyPrivacy and Malware Domains; unlike EasyList, these are not subscribed to by ABP by default.

There's a buzzin' in my brain I really can't explain; I think about it before they make me go to bed.

- Update your filter subscriptions manually.
en/faq_basics#update-filterlists - Check for bad custom filters.
In Firefox, click the Adblock Plus toolbar icon and choose Filter Preferences. Click the Custom Filters tab, and uncheck every category there. Close the preferences window, then reload the web page you were viewing before.
In Chrome, Opera or Safari, click the Adblock Plus icon and choose Options. Click the Add Your Own Filters tab, then click “Edit filters as raw text”. Select all the filters, cut them to the clipboard, then click the Apply Changes button. Reload the web page you were viewing before. - If at this point you're still having problems,
In Firefox, click the Adblock Plus toolbar icon and choose “Report issue on this page”. Once you've submitted the report, post the link to it in a reply here.
If you use another browser, please mention the name and version of the browser, the version of Adblock Plus, and what filter lists you're subscribed to.
- Click the Adblock Plus toolbar icon and choose Open Blockable Items.
- In the same tab, load the page where the content is blocked.
- In the bottom right of the Blockable Items pane, click the little icon above the scrollbar and make sure “Filter source” is enabled.
- You can right-click the various filters and choose “Disable filter <actual filter goes here>” then reload the page and see if it fixes the problem. You can then report the issue directly to the subscription maintainers: see the “forum” or “homepage” links on the subscriptions list page.

Re: Does adblock supposed to block non ad content?
I've created the issue there.
Gave a link to this thread.
few minuts later:
"Issue 812 has been deleted."
I am confused: what can I do now?

Re: Does adblock supposed to block non ad content?
well, I don't know why that ... but I see you also have some detecting stuff ... what legitimate content (not ads ! ) are blocked ?
You can also apply for using acceptable ads: en/acceptable-ads

Re: goha.ru Does adblock supposed to block non ad content?
What is broken:
- web site main menus are broken. http://clip2net.com/s/3cRyUf5 It had a lot of sub menus, adblock removed all sub-menus.
- web site visitor statistics are partially cut off by adBlock and not functional now.
- Media block in the upper center position cut of completely. We managed to get it back, but it get cut again and again. This media block containts non ad things, it is our video and articles.
On the forum adBlock broke:
- all menus / submenus.
- keyboard shortcuts are not functional anymore
- media video players, that plays videos on the forum, are mostly destroed by adblock
this is only short list. We are trying to restore our services but we are not able to keep up when adBlock add filters that removes totally all iframes (lot of media players uses iframes) or block the most of our sub domains, or when it prohibit most part of java scripts on the page...
P.S. Issue on https://code.google.com/p/ruadlist/issues/list was restored/came back
Thank you!

Re: goha.ru Does adblock supposed to block non ad content?
Well, a lot of stuff.
Did you try to explain at ruadlist support site all these things ? (...without "you killing us", "you destroy" and so on)
Try to contact again ruadlist maintainer, it's no other way, explaining all the necessary details.
Oh, so the issue is still there. Try to accomplish to the maintainer indications.

Re: goha.ru Does adblock supposed to block non ad content?
It IS REALLY "Destroy", "Kill". If I follow you requirements = I am bankrupt, portal wil be closed.
Sutiation in russia are already critical. Adding adblock efforts - it become unsurvivable.
Yes, I am speaking with ruadlist guys now - thaks for the link.

Re: goha.ru Does adblock supposed to block non ad content?
like I said: try to apply to the acceptable ads program
Re: goha.ru Does adblock supposed to block non ad content?
In order to complan you requirements, I will have to introduce changes to the adds: remove one most popular position (fullscreen), introduce more limitation to the banners design (no animation, no bright colors, no adobe flash), which will cut our profit by another 20%-30%.
We are already under water. We are already unprofitable.
Cuting our profit 20-30 % more will not allow us to survive.

Re: goha.ru Does adblock supposed to block non ad content?
I am making myself familiar with your approval system. And came accross the information about partial validating.
Question:
Let's say our web site has 4 banner positions. Is that possible to validate 4 positions and cooperate with adblock in removing 5th position for adblock's users?
