I think that the acceptable ads criteria should be changed. Ads that *technically* comply with the criteria are still obtrusive. THey are dishonest and call attention to themselves (Taboola being a prime example), which is the definition of intrusive advertising AFAIC. The criteria should have the following added:
1. Is related to the content if possible
2. Is honest- no "this one weird trick", no "Drivers in xxx won't believe this new rule".
3. Is non-intrusive- I can't believe I have to add this, but if you have "allow non-instrusive advertising" checked you'll get intrusive Taboola ads. They are composed of attention-grabbing images and headlines designed to be intrusive.
4. Is non-offensive or age-appropriate- even with the decline of pop-up porn, there are still ads with, for example, Miley Cyrus wearing a spaghetti-string whatever-that-is.
Taboola meets none of these, and while technicsally compliant with the current criteria, possibly, they are unacceptable.
Criteria change suggestions
Re: Criteria change suggestions
Hello hi529,
thanks for the thoughtful feedback.
While the Acceptable Ads criteria doesn't judge the content of the ad itself, it stands for straight forward ads that don't scream for attention. ABP users are served a smaller, straight forward ad that excludes crappy images and attention grabbing messages screaming for clicks. I suggest you to surf any website using Taboola ads delivered to our user base and submit a screenshot of whatever ads you think are bad. We'll be happy to bring them up for discussion.

Just want to chime in with the taboola discussion. Taboola is really just click bait and shouldn't be on the white list .
