Thanks Wladimir.

Are you saying that an ABP install only updates its non-intrusive ads filter when the feature is enabled, and that you get 25 million downloads of this filter each update cycle?

Would it be possible to estimate the enable rate by comparing the downloads of this filter with other filters?

Yes, that's what I am saying.

Given that even EasyList's download numbers are significantly lower - unlikely.

Thanks. How can these figures be reconciled with the 15 million active users, and my impression that almost all ABP users use a subscription, with EasyList by far the most popular because it's the English default? Do you have a figure for total downloads of all filters? Then we'd need to know what fraction of users use more than one filter.

Sadly, this might not be true. Before Adblock Plus 2.0 we asked users to add a filter subscription but didn't do it for them - consequently many dismissed the page without adding a filter subscription and I have no idea how many exactly. Note that Fanboy's List is another popular filter list (for English-language browsers the recommendation alternates between EasyList and Fanboy's List randomly), its statistics aren't available however.

Is it possible to allow non-intrusive ads that the user community requests? I really enjoy Adblock because it makes my online experience great by removing negative ideas from my consumption. At times I do want ads about products that are relevant to me and pass my personal "ethical" filter. Many companies have bad reputations but that can change if they are given an incentive. If Adblock adopted this idea users online could demand the market change by saying they will only accept ads from products that are created to their ethical standards/rated high by a non profit for quality, safety, and that the ad links to information about the products "footprint" by an independent source so that users can make wiser decisions easily and be made aware of the real effects of their consumption on others.

I'm not sure how this would work with profit and the law, if Adblock plus offered information/ideas/memes to replace advertising I would appreciate it. Perhaps a person would like to see inspirational quotes, new TED talks, lol cats, or some other type of information in place of an ad. This blocked space could be space for ideas or positive philosophy to reach an audience that wouldn't normally hear these ideas. It could be a way to notify people of important things that are happening in their world. Instead of a diet pill or product it could be an ad that links to a non partisan site about body types and helping a person find a diet that is right for them that doesn't include selling any products. Ads tend to spread misinformation and confuse people about what is right or going on so this would create space for a jump in consciousness and anti manipulation education to make bad ads less effective.

By changing the internet we change the world by creating a guaranteed market niche for ethical products and benefiting the user by providing them information they want to see or be aware of online that is peer reviewed/accurate/nonpartisan/etc.

I'm new here so I'm not sure if this idea has already been discussed but it's something as a user I would really appreciate.

 How about having a button or menu item like the (Disable for this page only) menu item where users can submit via 1 click a site to be reviewed, contacted and told that for example 612,345 viewers ask us to contact you regarding your advertisements so that you might consider conforming to the standards of our friendly advertisement standards so your site is not blocked by all our users, please contact us @ (contact info here) to discuss adding you. And in the review process if any issues where apparent it could be mentioned so they have the option to make changes to conform to the standards. Sort of like the "like" button that is so popular today. When you get over a certain number criteria per your decision and time available the most poplars can be reviewed and contacted. Adblock Plus is popular but many advertising sites may not be aware of your software and/or especially your new Non-intrusive ads option, this could help us help our favorite sites to get involved so we can keep them working toward tailoring their ads to the agreed standards and better compete for our attention to their site. I would also like to mention if adblock also had an option where if an ad was thought to be in violation, a button or menu item could be clicked to have it reviewed, and maybe even an easy notation box which could be somehow linked to a category in this forum perhaps so that it's posted here simultaneously. Further, for the advertisers who violate they could be put on a secondary level of acceptable sites until they are given time to fix their violations to be moved back on the unblock approved list and users can have the option of allowing or disallowing this secondary level of blocking of there favorite sites. This secondary list can be a temporary list where they are allowed so many days before automatically being removed and blocked or comply and be moved back to the unblocked list. :?: :D

Right now it is complicated enough dealing with the sites that contacted us on their own and agreed to certain conditions. Maybe if better control mechanisms are developed in future this will change - but as I said before, currently adding sites to the list that aren't bound to these conditions and can switch to more annoying advertisements at any time means looking for trouble.

The forums were TL;DR, but i did see (via Reddit) that Adblock is allowing some advertisements now and i thoroughly approve! I fully believe in supporting sites who's content I enjoy. However I do request, and the only reason I use AB+ is that it stops the pornographic material featured in ads on websites such as TPB. I appreciate the "block all" option still being available, and I will utilize this feature if you chose to allow smutty ads, but I think it would be awesome if you disallowed such filth to be added as 'non-intrusive'

TL;DR: Porn ads are intrusive.

I like porn and by no means see it as 'filth' or 'intrusive'.

The problem is with the ads on porn-sites.

According to http://adblockplus.org/en/acceptable-ads-agreements:
Whitelisting is free for all small websites and blogs. However, managing this list requires significant effort on our side and this task cannot be completely taken over by volunteers as it happens with common filter lists. That's why we are being supported by some strategic partners who want to secure the sustainability of the Acceptable Ads initiative.
Does this mean that sites above a certain size are required to pay to be included on the whitelist? If so, I think this should be mentioned in those sites' proposals, in the interest of transparency. For example, I assume Reddit doesn't qualify as a "small website."
