For All uCoz Sites (Over 1 million) Please Make It Default !

Hello,

uCoz is a good free site builder. In the past it was pretty much Ad free.

Now it is full of very bad and big banners that move over the site content, following the viewer with pills for losing weight, naked people etc.

There are many quality sites made with uCoz but the ads are really forcing you to buy some sort of premium package.

The ads come in different sizes/shapes depending from which country you visit a uCoz type of site.

There is a very simple way to remove all these without getting your site blocked.
Use Ad Block Plus of course ! ( the best )

I therefor ask you kindly to include as default in the filter list of Ad Block Plus the following filter :

/abnl/

There are over 1 million websites made with this system and many of them are high quality but people don't have money to pay for the Ad removal packages. Don't worry the company is doing fine with over 10% growth in user base each year and the biggest site creation platform in Russia and growing everywhere.

Thank you in advance. Waiting for a reply.

Could you provide some of those uCoz sites?

Of course MonztA, my pleasure !

If you visit the sites from different countries (or if you use different proxies) you get different shapes and types of ads even if you visit the same site.

But they all have the same universal place from where they get the ads.

http://example.com/abnl/?begun=1&l=US&u0=US
http://example.com/abnl/?begun=1&l=GB&u0=GB
http://example.com/abnl/?begun=1&l=NL&u0=NL
http://example.com/abnl/?begun=1&l=RO&u0=RO

etc.

Here are some examples, but i can give you all 1 million + sites if you need more examples.

http://thassos.ucoz.com/

1. Here it is how is looks without Ad Block Plus default list.

Image

2. As you can see the Ad is moving, following the user and disabling any content under it (like picture links or flash links)

Image

3. With Ad Block Plus default list, the 300 x 250px banner seems to go away and what is left is the blue link that follows the user.

In reality the 300 x 250 px banner is still present because it is still disabling clicking on a surface of 300 x 250 px. So even if someone wants to click on something in the site it will seem to them that those elements do not work because the banner is still over the site elements but invisible.

Image

4. Adding a very simple custom filter : /abnl/ will remove the whole frame ( the blue button + the invisible AD ) and now you can click in the 300 x 250 px area where the Ad used to be and it will no longer disable elements of the site.

Image

Conclusion.
Right now Ad Block Plus default list, blocks the Ads partially and leaves a button with a link to ucoz.com site and the space that was occupied by the AD (300 x 250 px) still exists and block elements of the site. (it is still over the site)

If you can please talk to Fanboy and include this /abnl/ filter in your default Ad Block Plus, you will literally clean more than 1 million sites of bad and aggressive advertising. Most people only use the default Ad Block Plus filter.

Thank you so much !

Tested with latest Firefox & Chrome it works flawlessly.

Opera with ad block plus 1.3.4 stops at point 3. ( invisible 300 x 250 banner that disables content and blue link )

That is great !
I heard the easy list and fan-boy are merging together.
Is Ad Block Plus going to provide a single strong default filter list in the future for all browsers ?

Does nothing at all (with a plus sign) :
+/abnl/?begun^
+/abnl/?begun
+/abnl/

Works perfect :
/abnl/?begun^
/abnl/?begun
/abnl/

Isn't it better to block the root of the problem ?
Like simple /abnl/ ?

The iframe for Romania looks like this (for other countries it changes the country and server where they are hosted + some random signs) :

<script type="text/javascript">
function resizeFrame(){
var WX,WY,BX,BY;
var o=document.getElementById('iFauzTefze'),t,d;
if (!o) return;
d=o.contentDocument;
if (!(t=d.getElementById('wrapperXauzTefze'))) WX=0; else WX=t.value;
if (!(t=d.getElementById('wrapperYauzTefze'))) WY=0; else WY=t.value;
if (!(t=d.getElementById('bannerXauzTefze'))) BX=0; else BX=t.value;
if (!(t=d.getElementById('bannerYauzTefze'))) BY=0; else BY=t.value;
BX=parseInt(BX)+parseInt(WX);
BY=parseInt(BY)+parseInt(WY);
if (BX<0) o.style.width="100%";
else if (BX>0) o.style.width=BX+'px';
if (BY<0) o.style.height="100%";

OK, i can see in easy list, now, the filter : /abnl/?begun^ that works.

The thing is with Firefox for example Fan-boy list comes as default.

I posted a topic on his forum also : http://forums.fanboy.co.nz/forums/viewt ... =6&t=16898

Yes, that's the idea.

Without a * at the end it would be a regular expression which should not be used in ABP since such filters are slower.

/abnl/* is too generic. That is why I made it more specific.
Umbral wrote:The thing is with Firefox for example Fan-boy list comes as default.
ABP randomly selects EasyList or Fanboy's List.

I see. Why not both until the merger is over...that would be good.
Will the fan-boy update this filter ? I posted another message in his forum.

Because you would have a bloated list with thousands of duplicate filters then.

Yes, you can also force a manual update of the filter subscription.
