wikipedia donate banner
Re: wikipedia donate banner
It seems wikipedia has become all about internal politics and revenue generation. How much does it really cost to host and run it?! They want $10 million for what?! to get more people involved? Maybe they should of though of that before making the pages harder to edit and starting in on their deletionist practices. I can't believe i had to actually Google around to find out how to block the stupid banner.
I'm fed up enough to really make a good effort to switch to Citizendium and am so pissed I'm considering donating $0.01 to the campaign (it will cost them more to process the donation ).

It's that Time of the Year Again
Piggybacking on ye olde joyous festive holiday season, the WP fundraising drive comes at us again.
As a multilingual user, not only do the banners have to be X'ed on each and every single language version, I need to do so in all my languages in all the sister projects (Wiktionary, Wikiquotes etc) that I frequent.
This year, the banner is this huge-ass candid photo of Jimbo W. solliciting us with his beckoning smile. This latest version defies all my attempts, using all the codes listed above in this thread and with the aid of Element Hiding Help.
Please help putting me out of my misery.

Re: wikipedia donate banner
The filter ||wik*.org/w/index.php?title=Special:BannerController should prevent the unwanted area from loading (https://easylist.adblockplus.org/blog/2 ... ng-banners).

EasyPrivacy to the Rescue
Thanks for typing up that blog entry. That string didn't stop the latest banner but the EasyPrivacy filters did the trick. Kudos & merry browsing!
Re: wikipedia donate banner
Is /w/index.php?title=*:bannercontroller any more successful?
Re: wikipedia donate banner
Okay, the wikipedia donate banner is taken care of in the annoyance filter.

This filter seems to get rid of it as of 11-18-10

Actually, they seem, to change the end stuff, so it's better to use a wildcard:Geo wrote:This filter seems to get rid of it as of 11-18-10

Re: wikipedia donate banner
You can install an extension as well to hide the banners:

One of the filters in that revision does the trick:fanboy wrote:Okay, the wikipedia donate banner is taken care of in the annoyance filter.

Code: Select all
||wikipedia.org^*BannerController
Re: wikipedia donate banner
Wladimir, why does the filter wikipedia.org###centralNotice not collapse the element?
Re: wikipedia donate banner
We have 2 whitelists for hiding elements for Wikipedia in EasyList. Ignore this post if you disabled them before testing.
Re: wikipedia donate banner
MontzA, might it be an idea to remove the whitelists from EasyList? I had forgotten about the filters, and they appear to have caused allegations of whitelisting the items.
