I didn't link to the article because the URLs mentioned in it seemed old. After reading the article again it turns out it's for a completely different thing that links to the same sort of websites and only looks similar. It's possible those are already being blocked or don't even exist any more. Anyway, the link is here if anyone is interested and thinks it might help with the Promoted Content problem.

I don't recommend blocking all of akamai.net, because that's a major CDN used to distribute downloadable files, large videos, and other assets; it's like CloudFlare except it costs a lot of money and doesn't reverse-proxy whole sites (or to put it another way, CloudFlare is Akamai for poor people).

Also, I think the three domains mentioned in that article are already blocked in the Annoyances list; they're well-known annoyance domains.

With that said, the domain names that I had blocked were flaurse.net and viewvio.com, and I'll add the other ones mentioned to my custom filters, for this full list:

Code: Select all

||flaurse.net^
||viewivo.com^
||frevi.net^
||exlpor.com^
||discvr.net^
||q3sift.com^
||qzsccm.com^
||zomri.net^
||lunio.net^
||contentr.net^
||topdi.net^
||hobri.net^
There's a buzzin' in my brain I really can't explain; I think about it before they make me go to bed.

I found a filter that blocks this type of "Promoted Content From The Web" ads! It was hard to discover the way to do it but I owe it to one of the links posted in these comments but here is how I found it.

First, I use Firefox and I have the Firefox addon AdBlock Plus.
I saw this type of ads at http://www.christianpost.com/news/nokia ... rs-134580/
I clicked the button of AdBlock Plus that gives the option "Open blockable items". Then, I move my cursor on one of the images that are part of "Promoted Content From The Web" ads on this web page at http://www.christianpost.com/news/nokia ... rs-134580/ The URL, web address of this image definitively contained iunbrudy.net. I simply created a filter called "Promoted Content From The Web" ads that uses a single filter ||iunbrudy.net^ and then I tested if it works and indeed the ad was gone! What a relief!

To create the filter using AdBlock Plus, press the button AdBlock Plus (or Tools, AdBlock Plus if you do not see an AdBlock, Plus button on your Firefox browser), select Filter preferences, press Add Filter Group, call this filter say "Promoted Content From The Web" ads. Then, copy and past at the right ||iunbrudy.net^.
Then, close the page with the "Promoted Content From The Web" ads, reopen it and see the result once you have created this filter! It works right away!

I hope this help.

Use the same method to block other sites until you are really free from these " "Promoted Content From The Web" ads. I also added the following filters:
||topdi.net^
||boomsbeat.com^
||taboolasyndication.com^$third-party
||taboola.com^
||images.taboola.com^

And I am sure I will have to add a few more as I browse further on the Internet. But you have the method to get rid of them and that is really the most important.

so adding 206.190.151.63 to peerblock is the long-term solution for this problem right? I think it has a pool of domains that keeps changing everytime a one domain is block.

as long as that's the only IP address they use, but it is harder to get new IPs than new domains

They've switched the domain hosting the ads again. http://jusukrs.com/

http://www.valuewalk.com/2015/02/cheese ... ily-dives/

I think you should go back to the method of blocking the clients instead of where the ads are served from. Disable third party content from Yavli's clients.

Hi all,

I found the following solution on reddit to block the 'promoted content from the web' advertisements on this reddit post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/commen ... dding_ads/

BearsDontStack offered a solution by posting a screenshot link to their filter subscriptions.

https://i.imgur.com/anG72aJ.png

One of the users noted that adding "'Fanboy's Social Blocking List" seemed to do the trick.

It worked for me as well. However when I went to adblockplus's known subscription list, the "Fanboy's Social Blocking List" was be grouped under the filter subscription title, "Fanboy's Annoyances". Just add the Fanboy's Annoyances filter and that should block the promoted content from the web advertisements for you too!

en/subscriptions

I don't feel blocking a IP address using another piece of software such as peerblock is really the best method. I prefer adding an appropriate custom filter based on suggestions from user here on an entire ADP subscription is a better route (provided you don't clog your firefox browser's memory with too many subscriptions).

Add http://doumantr.com to their list of domains to block. I did and it works fine for blocking these stupid spam ads.
