Romanian adblock list problem

Post by romanian2 »

There's a huge problem with the romanian 3rd party addblock list

ABP gets it from here:http://www.zoso.ro/pages/rolist.txt

Code: Select all

!Whitelist
@@||homebank.ro^$document
@@||profitshare.emag.ro/get_ads.php?*
@@||profitshare.ro/get_ads.php?*
@@||rezitests.ro/advertisement.js
@@AC_RunActiveContent.js
@@media.bestauto.ro
@@||promozone.ro^$document
@@||olx.ro/i2/ajax/ad/getcontact/*

the guy who is maintaining this list also has this blog http://www.zoso.ro where he actively promotes products from some of the whitelisted websites, getting paid for those posts and so on and so forth.

you can check this out here:

http://www.zoso.ro/un-mesaj-pentru-emag/
http://www.zoso.ro/stiti-deja-cine-exacta-black-friday/

especially posts like this one:
http://www.zoso.ro/telefoane-rugged-editia-2014/
where every link to emag.ro goes through a profitshare loophole in your abp plugin thanks to the inefective romanian adblock list.

let's go through the whitelisted websites once again:

homebank.ro - belongs to BCR one of the biggest romanian banks.
emag.ro - the biggest romanian online retailer.
olx.ro - the biggest ebay-like romanian website
promozone.ro - Ithink the website domain speaks for itself.

so my question is: in light of recent events why do you support such behavior from the people who maintain the actual blocklists? are you getting paid for this too? why is there a WHITELIST inside a BLOCKLIST? doesn't this defeat its own purpose?

"recent events" are old events. FT discovered the warm water.

See here (acceptable ads and other): forum/viewtopic.php?p=116464#p116464

As for the romanian list, it seems to be an abuse from zoso, so ...you could file an issue on the bug tracker (to have the devs attention):

Thanks for notifying! I will review that.

No, it's because of false positives. Blocking ad resources causes sites to break sometimes.

Quite disgusting to find that the the Romanian list is proposed by someone making money from ads. This guy is known in Romanian's blogosphere as someone without any moral values.
He's blocking others ads and white list those from his own blog.

you should remove easylist + romanian list and subscribe only easylist (and use your custom filters for romanian sites)

Guys, we are talking about a tool that removes/hides content from certain sites. Let's take the examples provided:

!Whitelist
@@||homebank.ro^$document
It's a Online banking site... do you really want that by mistake to have some important elements hidden?
@@||profitshare.emag.ro/get_ads.php?*
@@||profitshare.ro/get_ads.php?*
@@||rezitests.ro/advertisement.js
About this... i can't comment. Most probably the commercials from this sites are not very intrusive.
For example a friend of mine writes articles/reviews about various tech products. In order to get some revenue back (because he work for those articles) he uses affiliates links.
@@AC_RunActiveContent.js
This is a JS required by flash players. Do you want to have sites with non working menus?
@@media.bestauto.ro
This site is used to display images inside bestauto.ro
@@||promozone.ro^$document
One of the rules block any link that contains "promo". If this filter was not applied
@@||olx.ro/i2/ajax/ad/getcontact/*
About this i don't know what it is, but based on "getcontact" , i suppose it's something related to displaying the contact numbers.

If removing those ads it's so important to you, you can use http://www.zoso.ro/pages/rolist2.txt (a more agressive list). As stated in the header of http://www.zoso.ro/pages/rolist.txt

the plugin end user who installed the plugin on his browser is the only one who decides what's intrusive and what's not intrusive.

this argument is older than the internet. not our problem, tell him to get a real/better job instead of leeching off profitshare links and ad popups. thats why adblock was invented in the first place.

you don't get it, this is a plugin that's supposed to block ads no matter how 'important' they are or not. if the plugin is blatantly rigged by its maintainer so that it displays certain ads then the said plugin is worthless. I shouldn't waste time looking for specific versions of an official list just because some blogger wants to make $2 a day for being affiliated with [whitelistedwebsite].

you can try and defend him all you want but the list is flawed. period.

I agree.
If you want ads make a real life deal with someone, put a picture and a link to whoever you sell advertising.

The automated stuff are all intrusive and bullshit.

let's see what the t says:

olx.ro is the biggest romanian ad site yes. they have a contact form which uses the filename ad.php. it is easy to whitelist the domain, as they don't run ads on their website, than to modify that rule.
homebank.ro belongs to bcr.ro which is a major bank here
it belongs to ING and it's a banking website. it has some filenames that adblock blocks and people can't do payments unless the site is whitelisted. they dont run ads on the site.

bestauto.ro is a car sales site
yes. their cdn, the place from where they serve images, is whitelisted, as the site does not work otherwise. they did not run ads when i whitelisted them.

promozone.ro - I think the domain speaks for itself, and so on
it's a website that sells promotional stuff. they don't run ads.

emag.ro is the biggest romanian online retailer
yes. they have "promo zones" where they circle discounted stuff. no ads.

t has a problem with me and lies badly cause that's what a good romanian does. good job, t.

I am not a fan of mircea badea, but using the adblock to block his blog menu is not right.
- mircea-badea.ro##UL - (http://www.zoso.ro/pages/rolist2.txt)
You deserve everything he is saying about you!
What if I was hosting the rolist.txt and rolist2.txt and would add the "||zoso.ro^" rule?
In other words... you are being subjective when blocking or white-listing stuff in adblock.
The adblock team should drop your collaboration.

It would be easy to ask me why that rule is there. But rushing to conclusions is easier and ...
Also, Rolist2 is not an official list.

Why do we have to ask you additional questions for finding how do you decide what to block and what to allow?
So do it ..please tell us.. why is that rule there?
From what i can see mircea-badea.ro has "UL" elements only in his blog pagination and menu.
So my conclusion is that you block his visitors from visiting another page or category. AM I WRONG?
Even if Rolist2 is not an official list.. this show us that you could easily update the list to block who ever is bothering you (as we know.. you have problems with Mircea Badea)

P.S. I am really NOT a fan of Mircea Badea

That rule was placed there to block a banner he had on an older theme.
See how simple that was?

Can we get an update on this? As I see it it is highly problematic that this list is still on "Known Adblock Plus subscriptions".
