Adblock Plus

I keep trying to add sites - primarily newspapers and journalism sites to the whitelist but it just doesn't work, I don't want to block unobtrusive ads on these sites, I want them to be able to make an income from the advertising but they're not because adblocker is indiscriminate even when you tell it to except things. I don't know how to tell adblocker this either apart from post here in the forums which I suspect they're not going to trawl through anyway.

I'm using the latest iOS on an iPad Air and on my iPhone 6s Plus and it's the same on both of them, I'm using the Adblock plus app.
