License for CreteRound fonts?

Post by rathann »

Dear developers,
While reviewing the contents of adblockplus source, I found these font files:
https://hg.adblockplus.org/adblockplusu ... skin/fonts

Code: Select all

CreteRound-Italic.otf
CreteRound-Regular.otf
SourceSansPro-Light.woff
SourceSansPro-Regular.woff
SourceSansPro-Semibold.woff
Now, the SourceSansPro fonts come from http://adobe-fonts.github.io/source-sans-pro and they're licensed under the OFL. However, CreteRound seem to originate from http://www.type-together.com/Crete and their license is http://www.type-together.com/resources/eula/TT-EULA.pdf, which does not permit redistribution. The files themselves indicate they're under OFL, so this is a bit confusing:

Code: Select all

$ otfinfo --info CreteRound-Italic.otf
Family: Crete Round
Subfamily: Italic
Full name: Crete Round Italic
PostScript name: CreteRound-Italic
Version: Version 1.001
Unique ID: TypeTogether: Crete Round Italic: 2011
Designer: Veronika Burian
Designer URL: www.type-together.com
Manufacturer: TypeTogether
Vendor URL: www.type-together.com/Crete
Trademark: Crete Round is a trademark of TypeTogether.
Copyright: Copyright (c) 2011, TypeTogether (www.type-together.com), with Reserved Font Names "Crete" and "Crete Round"
License URL: http://scripts.sil.org/OFL
License Description: This Font Software is licensed under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1. This license is available with a FAQ at: http://scripts.sil.org/OFL
Vendor ID: TT
Could you confirm that you have written permission to use and redistribute the CreteRound Regular and Italic fonts from their authors under the OFL?

Best regards,
Dominik Mierzejewski (maintainer of the AdBlockPlus package in Fedora)

I'm not sure about specialized tools but a text viewer shows me: "This Font Software is licensed under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1." That's the license we are using it under.

Edit: I think that we got the font from https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/crete-round or a similar website. The files for download there are identical with ours.

Edit2: I contacted Type Together about this, just to have them verify that the download on fontsquirrel.com is legitimate.

I received confirmation from Type Together that Font Squirrel has permission to distribute the Crete Round fonts under the OFL.
Case closed. :D
