I don't know where to appropriately post this, so change move it if needed.
OK, I've run into this so often that it's becoming tiresome. ABP have a misunderstanding problem, not only in the general public, but even programmer types. There's a thread on HN( https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9447080), not specifically about ABP, but some of the discussions toward ABP are total ignorant of the facts.
People generally doesn't know:
1) ABP is open-source.
2) ABP can subscribe to many different filter lists.
3) ABP can block anything and not just ads.
Seeing technical people piling on trendy new blockers out that really doesn't add anything new to web filtering is a pitiful annoyance. It's all sad really, when those blockers rely on EasyList and advertise themselves as a step up from ABP.
I think this be be addressed. Maybe a better message or active engagement.
