Why have people stopped recommending adblock (plus)?

I've been reading comments and posts where people suggest not to use ablock / adblock plus and use uBlock Origin.

IIRC adblock / adblock plus was one of the most suggested Mozilla plugin, and it is still better rated on the Mozilla addon site. Then why this sudden change in people's recommendations?

Wherever I looked for this, I kept coming across some whitelist thing.

Hello!

Thanks for reaching out to us! There are some really big fans of other Ad blockers that troll the internet. I think some people may have a misunderstanding about our Acceptable Ads Initiative. What's important to know is that users can disable “allow acceptable ads” in options. If you still experience ads with this option disabled, please be advised that these are more than likely NOT Acceptable Ads. In these cases please send us the URL along with a screenshot of your subscribed filter lists to support@adblockplus.org. We are usually able to get these reported to the filter list team and resolved. Rest assured no company can pay us to have their ads shown. Publishers have to meet the criteria set by the Acceptable Ads Committee before being considered. Most companies actually pay us nothing at all. You can find more details regarding Acceptable Ads here https://acceptableads.com. Feel free to contact us if you have any more questions!

Thanks
Shannon

It wasn't sudden, but after uBlock (Origin) came out starting 2014 and the initial adopters found it actually did work better than other solutions, the fanbase grew.

From what I've seen recently, ABP is catching up, even including curated anti-circumvention snippets like uBO had for a long time.
