Yeah I'm in the same boat at merrittjr, nothing has changed recently apart from presumably an update to Adblock Plus that has caused it to stop working every so often for a large number of users. I'll check back on this thread every so often in the hope that it's fixed, as Adblock Plus is better than Adblock, however in the meanwhile it is unusable.

I'm having exactly the same problem... It started a few days ago (with the latest update?) and the only thing that helps is disabling the Adblock Plus extension. Everything worked perfectly fine until recently, and I didn't touch or change anything that could lead to this.

@Nidjo, can you try keeping enabled only windows firewall and disabling all other security software ?
what filter lists are you using ?
clear cookies & cache
disable also all other extensions and re-test

I'm in the same boat. Been using ABP for years. In the last week it's slowed my computer to a crawl, always saying "Waiting for extension Adblock Plus…" I'm on a Mac.

Some filters that might be responsible for this issue have been removed from EasyList. Can somebody confirm that the issue is gone after updating the filters lists?

ABP isnt an antimalware software.

scan your system for malware / adware:

I'm having the same problem a month after it was supposedly fixed. If I disable EasyList then the page loads fine, if it is enabled then the page hangs and says waiting for Adblock Extension. It is the only extension that is installed (fresh install today, EasyList says updated today). Chrome is Version 36.0.1985.125 m.

It seems to happen on our pages that use jquery ajax to load xml content, though those pages also have embedded flash objects as well so I'm not sure which.
