ADB/Chrome carrying "KingIlya" malware?

Post by Joshua »

I downloaded the latest version of AdBlock Plus for Chrome from Chrme Store last week, and began to have popups from "KingIlya" appear at every search. I contacted Symantec, and only after the technician took control of my Mac and deleted AdBlock Plus/Chrome did the popups stop.

Not believing that AdBlock could possibly be carrying such annoying malware, I re-installed it and re-started Chrome. Sure enough, at my very first search (Levi's jeans) the annoying little KingIlya window rose from the lower right corner of my screen...again.

I've relied on AdBlockPlus for years. Is this the end?

You probably didn't installed Adblock Plus, but one of the fake apps/extensions on the Chrome Web Store.

The safest way to get the real Adblock Plus is from adblockplus.org.

1.go into the extensions page and remove all the unknown extensions (including the fake abp)
2.scan your pc for malware / adware
use
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/ ... ware.shtml
3.install the true ABP from
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... ails?hl=en
or from
en/chrome
