chrome: Shock Wave Flash Crash

Post by Mafu Tofu »

-ABP 1.8.3-
-Windows 8.1-
-Google Chrome Version 35.0.1916.114 m

On websites such has newgrounds.com, if ABP is enabled, the Adobe Shock Wave Player will crash upon loading the video.

Disabling it however plays a video ad then the video continues and there is no crash.

Solutions such as disabling Adobe Flash or Shockwave Flash on the settings does not work.
Thought I should just mention this, I don't know if any other users have this problem/

Sorry for neglecting to submit this information.

Here it is:

Chrome Version 36.0.1985.84 beta-m
ABP 1.8.3
Windows 8.1

Subscribed filter lists:

EasyList Germany + EasyList
Malware Domains
Fanboy's Social Blocking List
EasyPrivacy

I've played around with the settings of these lists a little this morning, and I found out that it must be the EasyList filter list that is causing the problem (it doesn't seem to matter which country version). As soon as I deactivate this list the problem vanishes, but of course the ads reappear as well. (I also tested this with the other Chrome extension, AdBlock, and there the same happens. As soon as I activate EasyList in that other extension, the sites crash.)

I used the same lists, all ok here ...
Could you update manually your lists ? ==> click ABP icon, options, "filter lists" tab, click "update now"
Are you using some custom filters for that domain ?
Disable also all other extensions to test again

So, after some testing I've been able to narrow it down and find the "culprit": It's the LastPass extension (v3.1.33)! As soon as I disable it, all works as planned, but when I enable it, the sites crash with ABP enabled! Now that's strange!

Lastpass really seems to mess with adblockers. It does the same with the "competition", AdBlock for Chrome. With LastPass and ABP / AdBlock enabled, the shockwave plugin crashes. I've disabled LP for now, but if this persists I'll be needing a replacement / an alternative.

The issue on newgrounds.com should be fixed with a manual filter list update.

The Newgrounds crash is an issue with Adblock. I don't have Lastpass installed and when I want to watch a video, it crashes. I tried to use the filters, but they don't work.

well, I'm using the last dev build and it's working

I tested using 1.8.3 (the last stable build) ==> does not work

so, try the last dev build (uninstall or disable the stable one):
