ABP "forgets" about filter settings depending on vsited site

Post by fuzzi »

I noticed a strange behaviour the last weeks.

I am using ABP since years but now it seems to me that - depending on the visited sites - their programmers found ways to change the ABP filter lists.
Often links appear green as an exception from the rules although I killed all exceptions the day before.
My APB settings are set to no ads at all.
I tried to copy all entries from the two subscriptions I had and paste it to my personal filters. I deleted all allowing filters and deleted all the filter-subscription.
Then after a while - visiting e.g. bigger newspaper portals - they managed to install their exceptions and allow ads on their pages.

I experienced many sites can recognize APB as an adblocker and give according advices to shut off this blocker. Otherwise the page does not show the expected content - aso.

So what is going on here ??? Is it possible to hack the black and whitelists of ABP by special scripts ???

ok here we are:
Till then all seemed work properly but 5 mins. ago I opened the following pages at the same time:

http://wirtschaftsblatt.at/home/nachric ... e/index.do

http://www.faz.net/aktuell/wirtschaft/e ... 74780.html

http://www.boerse-express.com/pages/1532845/fullstory

http://www.n24.de/n24/Nachrichten/Wirts ... +N24.de%29

http://www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/ ... picks=true

After loading completed the formerly deleted subscriptions were enabled and a lot of (green marked) exceptions were added.
So wtf is happening?

well, I guess you are talking about the acceptable ads:
-click ABP icon, filter preferences, "filter subscriptions" tab
-uncheck "allow some non-intrusive advertising" if you don't want any ad (those ads are named acceptable because non-intrusive; so, you decide if you want to sustain those sites you visit or block all of ads).

NO

I am talking about the fact that all my settings - acceptable ads was unckecked - were "overwritten" after having visited the sites mentioned above at the same time.

As I said before the subsriptions were all deleted, all filters were put to my personal filters, acceptable ads unckecked.
All these settings were changed by ??what?? after having visited the sites (look above).

Clear enough?

Now you got the adresses of the sites you can proof it on your own.

choose a site of those above (where you see those exceptions) and submit an issue report. Then post here the report's link.

the report has been transmitted.

So what do you think will it take to check the sites for the filterlist-hack ?

I posted the links above - just read my posting from March 10th 7:17 and I gave you a report today.

It appears to be a hack from several "big" sites that insist on showing their ads.

These Austrian and German sites actuallay have the problem that they belong to the mainstream media.
They are loosing subscribers in 100.000s numbers over the last 6 months because they are called the lying press.

So my guess is they found a way to manipulate the ABP filter settings.

I mean the report's link not those links above.
I tested (open all those links) and I don't see what you say ... so I want to see your report. If you still have that link post it, if not...submit a new issue report and post here in the thread the link.

ok the report link is https://reports.adblockplus.org/2b022c4 ... b=requests

I think you have to make all the settings as I had:

- copy all filters from the subscriptions (Germany) and paste them to the personal filter list
- delete all subscriptions
- add some new blocking filters
- open firefox in a new window and then open all webseite-links in 5 tabs in that window
- perhaps you have to repeat the last step several times

So far I did not find out which site of the fife has the "hack" installed.
The only explanation without thinking about a hack is that I am working with 3-5 ff-windows and some tabs in each.
So could this influence the behaviour of ABP?

in the "filters" tab of your report I don't see any exception filter.

so, I don't know what exceptions are you talking about.

If it's some corrupted profile ... you could reset firefox, reinstall ABP, and use it normally with its lists.

I will stopp posting here. Just thought it could be interesting to examine the potential hacker behaviour of your service.

I will not do your work to test and search for a javascript or what they are using to circumvent the ABP system. But it happened and happened again on my pc.

So you may do what you like - this is it for me. Bye and good luck.

It's not my job, I'm a user (volunteer & mod on the forum) which I try to help you and I indicated you what to do.

I already said you: in the report there are no exceptions. If you want to follow my indications ...ok, otherwise ...
