New issues with Youtube

Post by dod »

After using AdBlock for a while with Firefox to block Youtube ads without any issues, I have started to have issues with Youtube since the past day or two.

What happens is that videos take long to load. I.e. I see a black screen and nothing happens, then after 30 seconds to one minute, the player client starts to try playing the video and eventually, the video starts to play. Here I assume that the point at which the player starts to try fetching the video clip from youtube servers is when the rotating circle of 8 round spots appears at the middle of the screen.

This happens with almost every video clip, also with clips that used to play fine without delay only as recently as a few days ago.

Here's what I think has happened; I think youtube has implemented some kind of a change to their system that punishes AdBlock users with this delay. Also, it is quite common that the play button and other buttons at the bottom of the player client disappears although they do work as intended when clicking on them, at least most of the time.

- update your lists, test again
- disable all other addons, test again (keep only ABP)
- still in trouble ? delete cookies + cache
- reset / refresh firefox ==> https://support.mozilla.org/kb/reset-fi ... t-problems
- reinstall ABP

- still in trouble ? ==> create a new profile, install ABP

FF: YouTube hangs for a few seconds after opening

Post by zennon »

Sorry to bump this up but i am getting this problem for a couple weeks now with FIREFOX. I've seen some new threads about this on the firefox forum and i believe it's related to this problem. Suggestion of clearing cache etc doesn't work.

If i add the
@@||youtube.com^$elemhide

you can see that basically the ad is hidden but it seems to have to wait for the length of the ad before showing the selected content. Here is a screenshot, you can see the bottom left corner showing that the ad it's supposed to be running.

Again this only happened if you have ABP + LOGIN, if logout there is no problem.

Don't want to cross post but i think OP is refering to the problem in this thread : forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=27737

Which i currently have. It's only been about a month that i have it, no problem before that. I've included a little bit more details on the other thread.

Ok, have to do more tests but it seems to work with this one:

Code: Select all

youtube.com#@##footer-ads
EDIT : Not working, same problem.

Hi just made an account,
I'm experiencing the same issue across four browsers(Firefox,Chrome,Chromium,Internet explorer) on three different machines(Lubuntu 12.04, Lubuntu 15.04, Windows XP). If I sign into youtube I cannot load videos with ad-block running. If I disable ad-block while still signed into youtube I can watch a video, or if I leave ad-block running but sign out of youtube it will work.

I can confirm that this issue is happening with my browser as well, even with the above suggested fixes applied.

Just wondering if the developer is made aware of this issue?

The problem is this issue can not be reproduced so easily, so, even reporting the issue on the bug tracker or on easylist forum ...

Yes, i know it seems to be random, but not for some specific videos. An easy way to reproduce is to open videos from :
https://www.youtube.com/user/TheLateLateShow/videos
More than 50% of the time you'll encounter the problem.

and also i guess all major "user"s videos.

- did you try a clean profile in FF ? or test again in firefox portable (to have a totally clean FF)
- click ABP icon, options, uncheck "Count filter hits".
add also these filters:

Code: Select all

||accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/postmessageRelay?*$domain=youtube.com
||ssl.gstatic.com/accounts/*-postmessagerelay.js$domain=youtube.com
||apis.google.com/_/scs/abc-static/$script
||google.com/js/bg/*$script,domain=youtube.com
