Save option in proxy settings grayed out

Post by bcman79 »

I am trying to install about on my nexus 4 running kit Kat. I follow all instructions but once I try to save the changes the save icon is grayed out so nothing gets saved. How do I solve this problem?

Sorry spelling error, darn auto insert. I'm trying to install adblock plus on my nexus 4 and I can not change the WiFi settings. I have followed the instructions given to change the proxy settings but the save button is always grayed out.

Hi, when changing the new proxy settings, also enter the wifi password again. This helped in my case to get the save button back.

The save option is grayed out, but I also get a message that says "The HTTP proxy is used by the browser but may not be used by the other apps."

I've fixed the problem on my side..

Just re-enter your wifi password, save button will be enable.

But I still get a message that Proxy works only on HTTP connexion, which means only via your browser.

This must be investigated by Adblock plus dev team

My "Save button" is greyed out, as well, however, the following just worked for me on LG F3:

On WiFi Networks screen, I tapped on my network and tapped "Forget" button.

I then tapped on my network again,
entered my network password,
checked "Show advanced options" box,
set Proxy Settings to "Manual",
entered "localhost" for Proxy hostname,
entered 2020 (this number will vary) for Proxy port,
tapped on "Connect".

So it seems the trick is instead of trying to modify the advanced options after connected, enter the advanced options while connecting. I haven't had to employ this trick on most phones (i.e. no greyed out Save button issue), but for those phones with no greyed out Save button issue, the above has worked. I hope it works for others, as well. :D

I agree. My phone will only allow access to the proxy for the browser only. It actively allows proxy bypass for everything but the browser. So ABP is denied access to the proxy.

Hey kender42!

Thanks for reaching out to us.
Could you let us know what is your device and Android version? I will try to reproduce it.
Unfortunately at the moment we have no Android developer, so I will do my best to try to help you with that issue.

Looking forward to your reply.

In my case I use an RCA android can't quite tell what model precisely then again I never look closely anyway I can say it's likely a version 5.1 or higher. Thing is on my Android ABP NEVER works. I can still access all settings but it never does its job something is odd. God I hate that.

Hey Awe789 !

Just responded to you in another thread asking the same question.
It would be very helpful if we could know the version of your Android in order to try to reproduce the issue.
If you go to settings you can you find the "about device" (or something similar) ? There you should be able to see the version of your device.

My Android is Vodafone Smart Ultra 6.0 with Google. Use Google directly as little as poss. and use search engine ddg. Save is gray. I don't use Wi-Fi but turned it on to change settings. I use G3 or G4 auto interchangeable on availability ... works fine. Have used AB & ABP for many years on laptop. 2.5 years ago began using on iPhone and since September 2015 on Android, with excellent results and always on G3 or G$ settings, never on wi-fi. In Feb 2016 noticed ABP deleted. Unable to find on Google Play Store. Downloaded from website on ddg. Then read that Google PS has banned ABP. Still don't want to use wi-fi. Can I get ABP for G3 or G4 again?

Just tried to load browser using URL above. Google Play Store button appeared. Clicked and took me to a German ABP site. All in German. Clicked the install button. Login screen appeared with 'Login, to continue' and 2 buttons: Login and Cancel (in German!). Click Login. Google screen appears: 'The page you request is invalid'. It would appear Google does not want me to download any AB products.
