Okay so read all the comments and tried doing the same.. It didn't work. So I started meddling with it. So I am sharing what worked for me. You follow the same advance settings.. Manual and then it turns grey so now what you could try is enter the proxy port number which is normally "2020" then go to proxy host and instead of typing localhost just type host and the save options becomes accessible and then you can again go to the same place and type in localhost it works.
Hope it helps

This one did it for me. As soon as i entered the WIFI Passw the Save button lit up :)

Since i saw lot of users asking the same question about greyed out save button when trying to manually save the proxy settings.
I found a solution, esp when its an unrooted device.

Long press on the connected wifi network and click on forget network.
Once done, click on the network you want and before you enter the password, click advanced settings > Enter 'localhost' for proxy name and port as '2020' (or as instructed by AB+) then enter pwd > save.

Wait for 5 mins for adblock+ to see the settings and the notification status message will change to > ''Blocking ads on wifi"

All the best!

just to keep some of you guessing, none of the steps worked, and finally i was able to get it to save by noticing the save button activated when my password for my wireless was a character short

there were actually two times where it would accept changes once at 6 characters in and once one character short.

this thread wouldnt be there if the solution made sense, but in this case, the solution doesnt, hope this helps someone else.

Hi!
Having problems trying to configure Adblock plus. I've just got a new phone that's runninig Android Marshmallow 6.0 and have been downloading some apps last couple of days off of Google Playstore, but I'm now getting annoying pop-up ads when I open up my apps. Also in the middle of games they appear. They even pop-up on my homepage when I turn my phone on now. I've tried deleting all apps but still the ads remain. I want to try Adblock plus as it seems to be the most recommended ad blocker for unrooted phones. I've downloaded the app and tried to follow the set-up steps. On the Adblock Plus app, near the top it says 'Adblock Plus can not change the proxy settings on my device, please configure it manually', so I'm trying to do this just now by following the set-up steps. I've turned my WIFI on. Pressed and held the network icon to bring up Modifiy network. Pressed modify network. Now it says to tick the advanced options box but there is no advanced options box to tick. It does says Advanced options but that is all. I've pressed on the advanced options but nothing happens. So I'm now stuck and unable to modifying my proxy settings manually. Any suggestions? Thanks, Ally

I'm not sure ABP for Android even works in Android 6+; it has not been worked on for a long time, and it didn't work well even in those versions of Android where it worked.

Hi Everybody.
I did browse through this forum to find a solution but didn't....

Phone: Galaxy J5
Android: 6.0.1
Browser: Firefox

Problem:
Installed ABP and was asked to switch proxy settings to localhost 2020.
Did so and pushed save Button. Settings appeared to be actually safed.
ABP continues to ask for switch of proxy settings to localhost 2020.

Do you have any suggestion?
Thanks in Advance.

The post right above yours explains the situation: ABP for Android does not work in Android 6 and later.

More recently, Eyeo even pulled ABP for Android, because it was buggy and no longer compatible with recent versions of Android, and nobody was working on it anymore.

Although you can't block ads in other apps with it, consider using the Adblock Browser to browse the Web.
