Starting in Firefox 57....

Post by vernashannon »

Adblock Plus will be considered a "legacy" add-on and won't work starting with FF57, UNLESS the developers of Adblock are transitioning to the new technology. Well guys, are we "transitioning" or what?????

As explained in the blog post, we will release a compatible version by the time Firefox 57 is released. We want the new release to be reasonably close to the current Adblock Plus version in terms of functionality, which it currently isn't. It's unfortunate that Mozilla already disabled support for classic extensions in the nightly builds, I can only recommend using a stable Firefox version for now.

Turned out, there are two different issues:
  • Out-of-process Web Extensions have been enabled by default on Windows, this broke Adblock Plus for some reason. The work-around is going to about:config, changing the extensions.webextensions.remote preference to false and restarting the browser.
  • Legacy extensions have been disabled by default. For now this change can be reverted, by going to about:config and changing the extensions.legacy.enabled preference to true.
We are currently discussing whether it makes sense to publish our Web Extensions build to the beta channel at this stage.

@kolor: I edited my previous post and added the note that you have to restart your browser. If that doesn't help then maybe you have an entirely different issue, not related to Firefox 57 at all.

Władimir I don't know it is important but Firefox 57 now use new project "Servo "

layout.css.servo.enabled about:config.

May be this is problem to ABP works properly.

Yes, the current nightly no longer works, regardless of out-of-process Web Extensions. There is a new issue, it seems that support for the <embed> tag has been removed. That one is easy to fix on our end if we decide to go down that route.

What about element hiding helper? Or it's now integrated in the main add-on?
